You know, reading this thread has got me thinking about getting a cleaning company in to do a deep clean of my house and I'm more than capable of doing it myself! But my hubby and I work fulltime and I bloody hate cleaning. Oh, the thought of someone scrubbing the kitchen cupboards or the entire bathroom for me! Heaven!0

I am soooo sorry you are going thorugh what you and feel your house is a mess.
I broke my foot at New Year and hadn't been able to clean and at the end of Feb I got a cleaner.
She came round and I explained I hadn't been able to do much - OH didn't really clean etc - and she took it all in her stride.
Now I never have pulled the TV out.... or hovered under the bed often..... yet this cleaner is like an angel to me!
I opened the microwave and it was actually white..... Not that it was horrendous, but now it's 'white' ha ha.
I think I painted the skirting boards more than I dusted them, yet she does it all the time. I have her for 3 hours every other week, so she's only been 2 times, but already I don't know how I could go back to not having a cleaner.
I opened my cupboard where I keep my old carrier bags etc under the sink and it was all arranged. I almost wanted to text her and say WOW!!!!!
i would just make a few calls, go with recommendations if you can and I think you'll feel a whole heap better once she's been once.
Good luck.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I kinda feel that a cleaner shouldn't necessarily have a set and rigid list of acceptable jobs and that it should be an individual and flexible job that takes into account what the actual client requires.
I think anything outwith the usual routine should be classed as a special request and discussed as a requirement so an appropriate cleaner can be found.
No point in hiring someone if they don't actually take care of the jobs you require help with. No matter what the job might be, poo or no poo.

Exactly, every cleaner is different and every client requires different things. I've turned down jobs because they don't suit what I do but equally a couple of my clients haven't been able to find anyone before who'll do the cleaning they want, when they want and how they want. Word of mouth is the best advertising OP.. anyone you know already have a cleaner?0 -
I've heard of a few people locally who have been very disappointed after having in a big cleaning franchise to do a deep clean.
I would always prefer to get a personal recommendation if possible.0 -

As long as you keep in mind that your cleaner is not your skivvy.
I've had cleaners who tell me they have walked away from jobs that started off as just a simple clean only to have more and more expected of them each week.0 -

This
...... and communicated by note, never face to face. Irritating not to mention disrespectful. 0 -
You are doing your very best under extremely difficult circumstances. You have no need to feel ashamed. If asking a cleaning company to come in and do a deep clean, feels like to big a step, is there a member of your family who could help? Or a close friend maybe?
If someone I knew were in a similar position, I would be making no judgements at all and just want to do all I could to help them. If anyone made any derogatory comment about the general state of your home, they would be very shallow and be showing a huge lack of understanding of all you cope with. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

Sometimes (and I do only mean sometimes!) the problem is that customers expect miracles to happen in only a few hours. We've been to houses where we've been booked in for 7 hours, stayed for 8 (unpaid) and still hardly scratched the surface by our standards. People genuinely have no idea just how long it can take to thoroughly clean say a bathroom with a stand alone shower cubicle, where limescale and mould have been left to build up for many years. Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass

No, it would be wrong to start treating them so.
However it is a job. Payment is given, it's not like cleaners are doing favours for people so it's not unreasonable to ask for specific things to be done (as long as these were agreed upon upfont of course).
