I need help but im ashamed!

For the past 8 years i have been going to the hospital every other day for treatment that keeps me alive and its very draining. I do what i can around the house (i'm not old). I've always been a tidy person, but now i cant keep up with things, by dinnertime i'm shattered. I cant move furniture or kneel down and feel my house is a disgrace. Although its no where near as bad as the ones on tv (like on ocd cleaners). I would love to get someone in to deep clean? but feel too ashamed to let them see it . I dont have piles rubbish all over or anything, just dirty skirting boards and the sofas and tv havent been pulled out for ages. I dont have anyone that can help me and feel it would be too much to expect from a 'cleaner'. Can anyone suggest anything? and what can i do about my embarrassment?

  • 'TV pulled out'? I'm sorry... what? My TV only gets pulled out if I've bought a new one. Honestly - you've got nothing to be embarrassed about. The only thing that matters right now is your health. To hell with the house. If you really feel you want someone in to clean your house, get them in. I'm sure they would sooner have a house that needs some attention than one that has them looking around thinking "what exactly do they need me to do here?"

By all means, get a cleaner in. I'm 100% sure they'll have seen worse!

BTW. I don't think I can spell 'embarrassed'. It just doesn't look right.

There are lots of house cleaning companies out there. Some will do one off cleans and then maybe you could advertise for a cleaner every couple of weeks, if that's what you want.

A quick email to the company just saying what you've said on here should mean they'll send somebody to give you a quote. You've had more on your mind than worrying about cleaning.

Cleaners pretty much expect to get a dirty house. The only one I've had turn me down was one who didn't expect to do cat litter.

Your house doesn't sound too bad. I'd guess that your main issue is feeling comfortable with one, so look out for one that you get on with. If possible, get one through word of mouth.

I know someone who is a specialist cleaner who does deep cleans (even after a death - apparently some people clean blood stains not very well, and it reappears after a while, and this can really freak out the guilty conscience of unarrested murderer. Lol.) and declutters for houses in a real state, but also handholds the homeowner who finds the process traumatic, so they're not cheap, have a waiting list and I'm not even sure they're taking on new people at the moment. But there must be others like them.

I'm with thehappybutterfly, my TV only gets pulled out when I have a new one or something new to plug into it! Likewise with the sofa.

I don't have a dirty house and its generally tidy but I realised some time ago that with 2 small children and a full time job there were better things I could be doing with my time. (I never iron anything either :o)

That said you are feeling uncomfortable with the way your house is. It doesn't mean anyone else would judge you so bite the bullet and get in a cleaner. Might be worth advertising in the local paper shop if you want someone regularly after the initial clean. Might suit someone after a little bit of "pin money".

It sounds as though you have had a lot on your plate with your health so try to appreciate what you do do and not beat yourself up for what you don't.

Cleaners are like doctors;however much you think you are going to be the worst they've ever dealt with, they've seen much worse.

Yes, which is why I have a cleaner. Would you rather I left my cats to their own devices every time I go away for the weekend or on holiday? Or do you think that because I have cats, I should never be away from my house for more than 18 hours at a time or need hospitalisation or have family emergencies?

I'd rather nothing, since you asked so nicely.

Maybe you're confusing cleaner with cat sitter?
