Teething and sore bottom

  • Just water and cotton wool/reusable wipes, lots of fresh air and Bepanthen usually worked when DS was a baby. Hope it clears up soon, so sore for little ones. x

I was always told teething resulted in sore bottoms.

Of course now, common sense coming tothe fore, it has got to be a load of rubbish and not connected at all.

Is there any scientific evidence to back it up.

Dentists deny it, but as someone else posted, a lot of liquid gets diverted from their wee by the dribbling. That then means less dilute wee/poo which then causes the rash.

  • It's not gentle, at all. It's a by-product of the petrol industry!!!

Who knew? It certainly smells 'gentle'! In fact, get this, my 15YO daughter and I were in Asda the other night buying cotton wool pads and the talc smell in the aisle reminded me of babies. I remarked "I love that smell but thank god I'm past having babies!" My daughter said "I can't wait to have a baby". Oh jesus but I know she'll wait 'til she's older. She'd better wait - I told her I had no intention of becoming a granny in my 40s.

It's a mineral oil. I wouldn't be putting it near any living thing!

Hmmm. While i don't disagree with you - anything inhaled into the liungs would cause a medical emergency don't you think?

So Johnson & Johnson got sued because they didn't state "do not inhale" on their products? Well duh.

Didn't read the entire post. But as the mother of one who had lactose intolerance, he used to get a sore botty quite often.

Never used soap on it, just water and my hand to wash it, no it's not very appealing but the hand to bum rubbing was more gentle than even cotton wool and water. And stimulated the cells to renew more (that's what the HV said anyhoo) and it worked. Along with leaving them nappy free and chasing them around with the mop bucket :) Air is normally the best healer.

I'm another bepanthen user. It's great for nappy rash and for after having a tattoos.

    This is amazing stuff. http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/purepotions_lavender_nappy_salve.asp?item=Purepotions%20Lavender%20Nappy%20Salve

Looks expensive but lasts for ages and you only need a tiny amount. Last night my LO's botty was so sore (6 poos yesterday!) but this moning it will be fine. I have used metanium too and was pleased with it

I do always wash my babies bum with something other than water twice a day because water alone doesn't always remove the urine. I use aqueous cream or a mild organic baby wash.

Oh yes baby wipes make my LO have a super sore bum anyway. Reusable wipes are fab.

I stopped using wipes when my DS was a baby as I suspected they were causing a sore bottom. Used warm water and cotton wool to wash him with after that and got the nappies off anytimes I could, then if he still had redness I'd put some Savlon on at night time after his bath - seemed to work a treat and any redness was gone next morning. Any time now any of us has anything they know I'll be saying - "get the Savlon".

Dust his bum with bicarb. It is alkaline so neutralises acid wee.
