The other thing that can cause a sore bottom that is difficult to heal is thrush.

I always used to give the kids a warm bath and then let them have their nappies off as much as possible to aid healing.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Another vote for metanium (yellow cream) for bum and anbesol liquid for gums. Metanium has always cleared my 15 months rash really quick and the anbesol is the only thing that makes a difference for his gums, infact he spits his dummy out and opens his mouth ready whenever he sees the anbesol liquid now! He thinks it's a treat :)

The egg white one seems to work a treat, but maybe also let him run around nappy free and get some fresh air to his nether regions. Being cooped up in a waterproof nappy is sure to lead to some sweaty moisture problems.
  • Another vote for metanium. Also found huggies green wipes very good for.keeping nappy rash at bay, I think they have aloe vera in them.

My 20 month old is teething now, and her bum gets really bad, the only thing that helps is cleaning her bum with baby oil, wipe off any excess, and smear on loads of sudocrem, you need to keep the area from getting too dry.
At night I massage my LO's bum with baby oil, then wipe off the excess, and use metanium, in the morning it usually looks loads better.
Bepanthen is good too, but the cream that is the best in my opinion is metanium, just be careful a little goes a long way :)

I found the opposite. A sprinkle of cornflour before the metanium works magic on my DD.

(I wouldn't use baby oil on anything other than stainless steel!!)

I remember when my son smeared baby oil on his face when he was about 4. You should have seen the rash the following morning - bright red, dry and scaly. I actually got a call from nursery to ask what was wrong with him. Hard to believe something so gentle could be so harsh.

only fresh air will clear a bum of nappy rash

Sudocrem will only be of any use if applied Thinly, as when thick, can react with the nappy gels

Plain old vaseline will form a barrier. I swore by it when mine were younger.

Also, when mine had colds I would wipe a wee bit vaseline on the bridge of their noses, worked wonders for their breathing at night.
  • Yet another vote for Metanium - you only need a tiny bit at a time. It creates a thin film over the skin and works really well. I hope it clears up soon.

It's not gentle, at all. It's a by-product of the petrol industry!!!
