Options
Grand son is 7 months old and just got his first 2 bottom teeth, however that's brought on a sore bottom, and it looks sore too. Health visitor says this is something that happens with teething.

Anyone any tips to sooth this prob mum is using lots of sudacrem but was hoping any other mums here can give so e tips.

  • beaten egg white! Just whisk an egg white until it's a wee bit frothy but still loose then smear it over his bum. Let it dry before popping on a clean nappy. It forms a 'skin' and any redness/chafing will clear up in a day. An old fashioned method that really works!

Very common with little ones. See it lots at work in a day nursery.
The nappy cream that seems to work well is Metanium (very yellow, thick cream) and quite a few parents prefer it to Sudocrem. Try some time nappy free to let air get to the sore bits as well. Not nice for the little chap to go through but it will pass xx

I used metanium, both mine were allergic to sudacrem.

Anbesol for their gums ( need to ask the pharmacist and get liquid not gel).

Also look out or ear infections, my eldest ended up on antibiotics four or five times whilst teething ( youngest was fine though).

Sounds good but little more research and some kiddies have been taken to hospital, maybe they were allergic to egg, but thanks for the suggestion

I don't know - they keep changing the rules! I did this for my son who's now almost 21!!

I second the Anbesol liquid - that Bonjela stuff just slides off little gums. Anbesol doesn't taste great but it totally numbs the sore area.

metanium is the best stuff ever. Sudocrem tends to burn.

We had ear and chest infections, sore bum thrush (if it is weeping or bleeding it may well be thrush.. minor ailments at chemist can prescribe cream which saves seeing a dr) and pneumonis with teething. :(

  • Encouraging drinks of water will help. As they dribble when teething, the urine becomes more concentrated which then irritates the skin causing nappy rash.

  • My 20 month old is teething now, and her bum gets really bad, the only thing that helps is cleaning her bum with baby oil, wipe off any excess, and smear on loads of sudocrem, you need to keep the area from getting too dry.
At night I massage my LO's bum with baby oil, then wipe off the excess, and use metanium, in the morning it usually looks loads better.
Bepanthen is good too, but the cream that is the best in my opinion is metanium, just be careful a little goes a long way :)
