for my baby I would clean her bum with wet wipes then pat dry with a towel and that always makes a difference. If it was really bad then I apply zinc and castor oil to act as I barrier but usually not needed as after using a towel for a day the rash is gone.

For her gums and teeth I use teetha powder sachets and gel to rub into the gums.

I also another one who puts vaseline under the nose as it runs alot when teething and can get sore from all the wiping.

I used to buy a pack of nappy liners (like wipes but dry) cut them in half and use like a flannel with just warm water, nice clean bottom and not so sore,
I did find the boys were far worse, but then I think boys urine is stronger than girls (smelled like ammonia in the morning)
As above let them lie on a blanket for a little while to get the air flowing and to enjoy some freedom.
    Good luck.

I was always told teething resulted in sore bottoms.

Of course now, common sense coming tothe fore, it has got to be a load of rubbish and not connected at all.

Is there any scientific evidence to back it up.

It's true though isn't it? You can't keep up. One minute pregnant woman aren't supposed to drink, the next a glass of red is good for them, then it changes again and even one drink causes problems in newborns........

Honestly. What the heck happened to common sense?

I'm not sure about weaning patterns these days, but some foods, particularly oranges, tangerines, orange juice etc can make a sore bottom worse, so (if he has these foods) it might be worth keeping them out of his diet until the soreness clears up.

Its all the johnsons baby talc that we used to throw around too, blummin' great clouds of the stuff.

Now we are told it caused ashtma, carcinogenic, etc etc. Lethal stuff and again common sense.
I never used it at the time on baby, but is used it on me after coming out of the swimming baths.

When my eldest got a tummy bug and ended up with bad nappy rash, we found sudocrem and baby wipes stung and made it worse. Switched to bepanthen and cotton wool+water and it soon got better.
