Are Plusnet decent?

Hello all

Following O2's announcement to sell their broadband business to Sky, we are looking to change ISPs ASAP.

Speed-wise, cost-wise we have pretty much decided upon Plusnet.

Our O2 router will need to be returned to them, so we don't mind paying the 25 quid connection fee to Plusnet.

Are they a good ISP to be with?

Are any horror stories - like Virgin's over zealous application of their download allowances, for instance?

Cheers,

Sevet :)

Have a look at this thread regarding o2's bribery to get us to stay a little longer before jumping ASAP:

Have a look at TitanADSL they use the O2 wholesale network with non of the silly FUP's that O2 implemented.

Plusnet is a BT reseller, albeit one of the better ones. What are your other LLU options?

  • We joined Plusnet last month after moving house. It is a semi-rural area, small exchange & we were quoted 7-8mb. There's no Virgin Media/fibre optic BB here. Got an email from PN today which confirmed what we already knew, the download speed is 0.5mb!! Utter rubbish. OH can't work from home now, teenage son is furious and we can't Skype friends in the US & Canada now. Even trying to refresh this forums pages took an age.

If anyone has ideas on if it's worth trying to get out of this contract & moving to BT then PLEASE share.

We've been with PlusNet for 13 years or so, and we've always been happy with them. Our speed has recently gone up to about 11MB. If you are having trouble do raise a ticket and be persistent to get it escalated past the first-line customer service. If your speed is that bad, have you had the line tested? (We were getting 3MB in the summer, but then they turned interleaving on because of our noisy line and it went up to about 8MB, then we got a BT engineer out because the line got noisier and he replaced the master socket and our speed went up again)
  • We've just transferred from BT to plusnet. I'm getting download speeds of 3.66MBpS (just tested!). I'm not having any problems, yet!

Plussnet are actually owned by BT and have been since 2007 albeit a stand alone unit.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

How would I get the line tested? Do BT do it for a fee? What is "interleaving?" My phone line doesn't seem noisy on the rare occasions I've used it (use my mobile instead).
