To put it bluntly, they are just as bad as the rest of them, albeit cheaper. We moved from Orange to Plusnet 3 months ago and OH's incessant gaming has not yet bumped us over the 60GB per month limit. I can't open too many web pages, or send a picture via my iPhone/facetime people when he is playing as it disconnects him. Orange had a barely workable connection regardless of whether I was using the internet at the same time as him or not.

I am 50 METRES from our local exchange, so advertised speeds are 21meg on a normal line. We get about 16meg most of the time, but it sure drops at peak times.

Make sure you go through a cashback site like topcashback & don't use someone else as a referral to get them money off as you then ironically lose your own cashback.

Also, to keep speeds up, do not turn off your router at night when you switch everything off. They see this as a fault with the line at their end and keep lowering your speeds to cope with the 'disturbance'. Straight from Plusnet themselves, this info.

  • I am thinking Plusnet now that I'm going to leave O2.

Just hope they will have similar speeds - can't see why not as both are a BT wholesale produce on the 21c network. But some people do seem to talk like Plusnet is slow.
  • Just transferred to Plusnet from O2 a fortnight ago.
After having been kicked off Plusnet 8 years ago for downloading too much on an unlimited tariff, I thought I would give their fibre product a go.
They estimated my speed to be approx 75mb download.I have just finished my 10 day training period and are getting speeds of 73mb down and 16-18 upload.
My O2 speeds were 5 mb tops!! Not bad i think for an extra £7.50 per month.

  • What I like about Plusnet is how people like me can move now onto their unlimited ADSL2 package and then upgrade to fibre when it comes available - even when in a contract

Upgrading while in minimum term is never an issue with most suppliers-downgrading is!

How would I get the line tested? Do BT do it for a fee? What is "interleaving?" My phone line doesn't seem noisy on the rare occasions I've used it (use my mobile instead).

Interleaving is something they can do to help keep your connection stable if your line is noisy but it slows things down a bit - most people don't worry about it but our line was so bad we needed it on permanently

We reported a line fault to BT to get the line tested - they can do some stuff over the phone from their end, which is free, and we got them to send out an engineer (they might have charged us for that, but in the end they didn't).

I would start by raising a ticket with PlusNet, and see what they come back to you and say.

Dial 17070, select option 2, quiet line test.
No, there is no charge! You only get charged for a call out if OR are called out and no fault is found, or if the fault is found to be on your own equipment or wiring.

i was told that speed should be 11mb or upto
i am getting 0.477 mb download and 0.340 upload make your own mind
my contract is up at the end of the month guess what im doing!

    BT or SKY i think

oh and if you need normal customer service you have to call between the office hours mon-fri

If you are moving from Plusnet to BT or Sky, they will all be using the same copper from your house to the exchange so your broadband speed probably won't improve.

Have you raised a ticket with them to report the problem? What did they say?
