    Happy November everyone!

No news is good news I hope as we've heard nothing about the scan. Will give it until close of play tomorrow then assume all is ok.

Having a long weekend off work Friday and Monday, then off again next Friday as it's the care assessment. So nice to have a break.

Payday was Friday so have paid off the credit card and my VSP now holds £725 but this will start to go down as I've made a start on Christmas shopping as and when I see a good deal. Had to buy Mr SA a new shaver, was going to get him a good one for Christmas but his old one broke. Thankfully because of the card protection refund I was able to let him choose a good one yesterday. Have also bought a soup maker - I have soup for my work lunch every day so I'll get loads of use from it. I made sure I put £100 in my ISA first before I started spending.

Got loads of Trick or Treaters round last night. Ran out of sweets so had to stop answering the door!

Now to catch up with other diaries.....

Still not heard anything so he must be ok. Phew.

Day off work today, pottered around, took dog on a very foggy park and cleaned up after Mr SA's painting. He is a very messy painter! Living room walls are now done and look great. Colour is Dulux Once matte Caramel Latte.

How is this for a coincidence - ages ago I posted on a MacMillan brain tumour forum and now someone is trying to get in touch with me, her hubby has same lymphoma as Mr SA, is an ex roofer, similar age and being treated in same hospital as Mr SA was. She wants to compare notes. Mr SA would love to hear from her hubby to compare notes with him. So I've replied and hope to get in touch soon. It's such a rare type of lymphoma hardly anyone has heard of it.

Had a no spend day yesterday, almost had one today too until Mr SA convinced me we needed a Hug Rug (he'd seen an advert on TV). But I went through Topcashback and hopefully it will stop the dog getting her dirty paws on the new sofa when it comes (and Mr SA's dirty trainers!!).

Back to work tomorrow :( But only for 3 days :) Off Friday.

    Hello folks!

Still no news on the scan so it must be ok. It was Mr SA's care assessment yesterday and after a very long 3 hour meeting it was decided he could have his wish and get rid of the carer as long as a few measures are put in place first. An occupational therapist is to visit to check what he needs to be safe on his own all day, eg alarm round neck, gadget to put socks on and even a long handled sponge to wash his back by himself. The social worker was concerned about his falls and won't let the carer go until everything is in place and she was going to get the ball rolling yesterday afternoon. He is also being referred to SALT about problems he has with swallowing and his speech. The district nurse is going to come round to give him a bladder scan and to see about him having continence pads as he has accidents regularly. He has also been referred back to the falls team. He had another fall in the early hours of yesterday and was stuck in the gap between the bed and the wall for ages.

He hasn't been well today, we went in town for a coffee and had to come straight back home as he was really struggling, sweat pouring off him and feeling dizzy. He's in bed st the moment.

The living room is almost finished just got to paint the door and hang the pictures back up, then all is ready for the sofa and armchair coming in the next couple of weeks.

You don't want to know how spendy I've been over the last few days but it has all been for Christmas and will come out of my VSP and I've gone through Topcashback where I can and shopped around for the best price. Just got Mr SA's and DS's OH to buy.

Need to take the dog for a walk but she won't go out in the rain.

  • How do you feel about the Carer not being there?

Sorry to hear about last night's fall and today's illness. Hope he feels better soon and that you enjoy the peace while you can Xx

I knew the carer would have to go at some stage. Mr SA doesn't need him for physical care. I said it was up to him and be it on his own head (hopefully not literally!) if it goes pear-shaped. It means he'll be on his own decorating wise and he won't have anyone to take him out to B&Q/dog walking/medical appointments/Costa etc. A lot more will fall on me to do, but we can't expect the council to pay for a carer just to do those things. So once everything is in place he'll be on his own, should take about a month. Hope he's made the right decision.
