Mr SA has moved hospitals tonight. He is now on haematology ward ready to start chemo. He just wants to get on with it now and is ready for the battle. He actually looked really well tonight which is more than I can say for me - I feel absolutely awful!!! Haven't felt this ill in years!!! Hopefully the bank holiday rest will sort it out!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Time to take yourself off to bed with hot drinks (honey & lemon with dispersable asprin is my recommendation). Don't go near DH, tell other family members to visit him, it's for his own good. He won't be able to start chemo if he has your virus. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0

Great news that MrSA has progressed onto the next step of his treatment. :Tsatchmo1 wrote:Time to take yourself off to bed with hot drinks (honey & lemon with dispersable asprin is my recommendation). ..Satchmo is quite right; please don't take a respiratory infection onto an oncology unit - for all the patients' sake - because chemo, steroids and other cancer drugs depress [in some cases destroy] the immune system.
It's a good idea to hit your bug with vitamin C - honey & lemon is great (Manuka honey if you can afford it, or a monofloral variety such as Eucalyptus. Well worth paying more for the extra health benefits of Manuka [made with nectar from "tea-tree" tree flowers] than basic commercial brands can provide.
Please also try and rest while other family members/friends visit DH until you are better.

Thanks all for your advice. I've been having lemsip max and this morning I feel a bit better. I told Mr SA I won't be able to go on cancer ward with a cold so he is aware. There are other family members visiting him this weekend and he is texting me so he won't be on his own. At the moment he still has water infection and on antibiotics so I don't think he'll be able to start chemo until that's gone.
Dog and cats woke me up early this morning again. I have lots to do this weekend so maybe this is a good thing. Apparently I have filled in ESA form wrong - I've filled it in for income related when I should have filled in contribution based so have printed off new form and will fill this in this weekend. Also on the list:
Do some weeding in garden - DS is coming to cut grass
Re-wax pine cupboard in hall
Clean up
Lots of dog walking
Sort out cupboard under stairs - be ruthless!!!
Sort out summer clothes and sandals in the hope that it'll be warm soon!
Give myself manicure and pedicure
Online shop for next weekI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Morning SA,

Good. Sounds like DH will soon be up to enjoying his new Kindle which will help to while away the hours in hospital when nothing much is happening.Sun_Addict wrote: »At the moment he still has water infection and on antibiotics so I don't think he'll be able to start chemo until that's gone.
Is he still catheterised? Getting rid of that would help; now DH is awake, if he has feeling 'down there' he can use a bottle if he's not yet up to trekking to the bathroom. Be prepared to push for things like this; I was left with the impression that busy staff are happy to leave catheters in place longer than strictly necessary as it reduces their workload (less taking patients to the bathroom and carrying bottles around).
Suggest visitors take in cranberry juice and persuade DH to drink as much as possible to help flush out the bugs. Oh yes and a pot of Manuka honey [with a spoon in a sandwich bag - he can keep in his bedside cabinet] great for boosting his immune system and keeping up his energy.
Sun.A, you might also be interested in reading up about the benefits of juicing raw fruit and veg to make 'power-drinks' - DH would be unusual if he doesn't lose his appetite during treatment and you can help him a lot by finding ways to get around this.
Have amended your list slightly:Sun_Addict wrote: »Do some weeding in garden - DS is coming to cut grass Fresh air - good.
Re-wax pine cupboard in hall ?? That could wait!
Clean up Ok.
Lots of dog walking More fresh air; good.
Sort out cupboard under stairs - be ruthless!!! Maybe, but a dusty job.
Sort out summer clothes and sandals in the hope that it'll be warm soon! Ha! You want the snow to come back?
Give myself manicure and pedicure Excellent - pamper yourself while you have the opportunity.
Online shop for next week Good plan.
..Far more useful to concentrate on activities that will help you to recover from your bug; leave the others - dust, chemicals won't help - and rest/pamper yourself instead.0 -
Thanks mummy and robin. - and robin what good advice!
You'll be pleased to know I feel tons better. Even had a lemsip free day! I still maintain I picked tis bug up from hospital. My nose is a bit runny but that's all - phew!!
Went to see Mr SA in his state of the art Centre for Clinical Haematology. There are just 2 in a ward and the TV is free - there is also wifi! This hospital is like a village of specialist centres and what a difference from the last one which, although they were absolutely brilliant, was more like a normal hospital. He is to start his chemo at the end of next week as by then water infection should be gone. Everything must be sterile - no visiting with any kind of bug then! He is fed up but ready to get started as it's the only way, he has no choice. He keeps saying amusing things, don't know if this is the brain tumour, steroids or water infection but he realises afterwards that what he's said is daft. Am going to remind him of the things he said when he is better. He said doctors say he is young and strong and will be fine - I do hope so. The kindle is with him and he's now well enough to appreciate it. There are no food and drink restrictions now and he is eating heartily. While we were there tonight he polished off a pork casserole, ice cream, loads of fruit squash, coffee and 5 biscuits! Have found a bus that runs every 2 hours (!!!) from a 5 minute walk from my house to the hospital - it goes all over the place before it gets there but it means I will no longer have to get 2 buses to the hospital.
Ironically a friend of mine has been on the ward he is in - she has beat myeloma - and at the moment she is being very encouraging. She is a poster girl for beating cancer and very much an inspiration. Taxi if you are reading this she is just like you.
The weather here has been weird - hot and sunny one minute and windy and raining the next. Forecast is good for the bank holiday - dog walks and weeding here I come!I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
