Sounds like MrSA is making real progress. :T
Great idea to give him "his own" cash allowance (along with a 'phone which has GPS, just in case his ambition / new found confidence takes him further than expected).
ps. You aren't going to need to take many clothes on holiday; it's getting really hot!0 -
I ran the idea by him yesterday, he didn't sound too enthusiastic but said he could "give it a go". Hmm. This morning he rang me to say he was in B&Q with his carer and did we need anything. I told him no we don't need/can't afford anything from there before the holiday. This would have gone on the card not out of his allowance as he would have seen it as "household spends" not personal. The words flogging a dead horse spring to mind.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

Ah.
Is part of MrSA's reluctance that he is:
A. Used to carrying / spending via a card?
B. Not happy about having cash in a wallet he could lose?
Maybe a new basic a/c, into which his 'personal spends allowance' is paid monthly by SO, might work better (no OD facility of course)?
Subterfuge may required to get the main a/c card off him though..0 -

Hello SA,
do you think you could switch to a new bank account yourself? and maybe make some money from it?
that way you wouldn't have to take the card off him but could just pay money into the old account each month?
long term are there any hobbies? gardening? making stuff? fixing stuff? that could help cut down the coffee spends?
and I apologise if changing the account is a bit sneaky!
XXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Actually I think new account idea good.

Thanks for your ideas folks - all suggestions are welcome. I'd struggle to get the card off him, it's only recently he got it back and that was after loads of arguing and him sulking. He needs to see we only have a set amount to spend and when it's gone we can't just pay by card as that's how we got the debt in the first place. He just loves spending money, he's never been a saver. Unless we can live within our means we will never stay out of debt. A good example was yesterday, he wanted to go into town for a coffee - I also like to do this at the weekend and money is budgeted for this. He needed a new suitcase as the zip is broke on his old one (which incidentally he informed me of as we were waiting for the taxi taking us to the airport on the last holiday!!!). Got him a hold all on wheels for £30 from TK Maxx. He has also run out of smellies and has been pulling sad faces at empty Chanel Bleu bottle. Told him Chanel is for birthday/Christmas only, too expensive for willy nilly purchase. He relented and got a lovely Body Shop one, I had a 40% off code so got a bargain. Then he wanted to look at M&S sale and ended up with a load of smellies from there! Then we went for a drink in pub (my suggestion) and started heading for bus home - he spotted burger and drink meal deal in pub near bus stop, said he couldn't wait until he got home he was hungry now, so I gave in. All in all I think we must have spent the best part of £100 yesterday.
Anyway up way too early today, woken up by sun streaming through curtains - not complaining mind. Mr SA still fast asleep no doubt dreaming about spending. Will have to take dog back to vets, she's still having pooping issues. When she sleeps or relaxes a tiny bit of poop pops out. Vet seems to think it's anal gland related, has emptied them and it seemed to do the trick for a couple of days then it started up again. Otherwise she's perfectly well and full of beans. She's only 2 so not age related. More expense!
On a countdown now to holiday, only 3 days to go.I've broke up from work now so have plenty of time to pack. We've got the OT coming Tuesday morning then Mr SA's got a routine GP appointment a bit later, which he's worrying about, I don't know why as the letter from GP said it was just routine. He hasn't seen our GP since he admitted him to hospital over a year ago so I'm assuming he justs wants to see how his very expensive patient is doing.
Payday tomorrow thank goodness. I won't be paying anything off the debt as I need to sort out the spending card first. Plan is to pay this off and get back to debt busting next month. I've got a few "projects" to work on when we get back from holiday - paying debt off, losing 10lbs, getting back to fly lady-ing again, decorating house and generally getting it ship-shape to possibly put on market.
Finally got my final bill from nPower (6 months late!) and I am in credit by £100, which they say should be paid into bank within 30 days.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -

Best win so far - holiday to Florida0 -
Busy day today, managed to get vet appointment so took dog on bus again. She's got antibiotics now for anal gland infection. Cost just over £35! So spends today £35 at vets, £4.40 in Costa (Mr SA just had to go in as it was on the way to vets!) and £11.45 in Co-op for food. So total spend today £51. Sigh! Mr SA and dog slept for most of afternoon, both tired out. Mr SA has decided he needs a new sweatshirt to take on holiday as we're going on a sunset boat trip and he thinks it'll be breezy. Bless him
Went through all holiday stuff to see if we needed anything toiletry wise and there's not much to get thankfully. I could do with a couple of vest tops though. Mr SA has got so many tshirts in his wardrobe he found a couple of them hanging up without a hanger! That's how packed in they are. Spent the afternoon cleaning house top to bottom so everywhere smells lovely and fresh so I feel I've achieved something.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Hi Sun.A, :hello:
Glad I'm in time to wish you "Happy Travels!" You'll have a great time - but dig in your heels about DH's desire for a new sweatshirt; trust me, the evening breeze will be a blessing on your boat trip - he may wish bare tops were acceptable - a t-shirt is certainly the most protection he'll need from the elements!
Sorry to hear you've had to take your poorly dog back to the vets - d'you know, in a lifetime of dog ownership, I've never had to deal with anal gland problems - but understand the stench is rivalled only by a three-day-old battlefield in the sun! (Vet's description). ..So well done for holding dog's paw during that procedure.
Guess you'll be holding fire on new bank a/c / card issues until you get home again - reckon Beanie's idea was better than mine. Actually both her ideas - you deserve a treat out of the refund money. :T0
