arthur_dent wrote: »Hello again and thank s for all the nice things you have said. i shall remain a pie club member but I am going to keep checking in on this thread aswell. I weigh in fortnightly at the doctors and so I don't have weekly weight loss unfortunately. As you can see from my sig I have quite a bit to lose and I thought that 1200 was a bit low but the nurse who put me on it said, when queried, I don't eat as much as that on a normal day. So I will do as I was snottily told even though I am not too sure its a long term solution.
Thanks again, Denty.
I would think that 1200 cals would be a bit low too, in view of the amount that you need to lose, I can't see any healthy man* needing to go that low. Was she referring to you or herself about 'I don't eat that much on a normal day' Sorry Denty but I get easily confusedand how much do you want to lose?
*I've just seen your sig 'mother of two' now I'm totally confusedarthur dent
What is it with doctors and nurses today, we go to them for help, don't we?
I'm going to go and regroup or at least try to, the signs aren't good

Hi sylvester
I have got gout!!!!! Can't believe it that is supposed to be for large port alcohol drinkers!! I haven;t had a drink since NYE and am no longer large:eek:
I have taken to wearing my H slippers, oh what a sight that is:rotfl: :rotfl: to go and pick up my son from school, I don't care, they are the only shoes I can get on now my foot looks like a football:rotfl: On antibiotics now so should ease it, not recommended for a great way to getting out of exercise:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
She was referring to herself and yes I chose a daft username, when I first joined the site they rejected three or four names and I ran out of ideas. I just went for any name and chose Arthur Dent because I love hitch hikers. In retrospect Trillian would have been a better choice because as you quite rightly pointed out I am a mother of two.
I didn't like the nurse, I have a different one now who is much kinder, but I don't find that these places are very supportive at all. What most people need is five minutes a week to generally chat about what's what weight wise. Personally I believe they do not provide that.Loving the dtd thread. x0 -
Gosh Victory.
Like you i thought gout was not for young lovlies like us!

Thanks Denty, I agree with you that most people just want a helping hand and supporting chat, we feel bad enough don't we without having to put up with any unkindness? However I'm glad that you now have another nurse and I wish you success; it's a grind but it'll be worth it :j
Victory I couldn't believe my eyes - GOUT!! How painful  You poor thing, but at least you're taking it on the chin, good for you and I hope it clears up PDQ
I'm just trying to kill time until MrP comes home, he's working a bit later this week and I'm getting so hungry but I don't feel right having my dinner when he's working and that then he has to eat on his own (I'm in the room but you know what I mean) when he gets in.

Hi Denty,
Welcome to the thread! I totally understand where you're coming from. I've had so many bad experiences that to tell you half of them would take up most of Lose Weight 12!
The best advice I can give you is to use the online weightloss resource links on the first page... I've had a look at them and they're very good. As for 1200 calories per day... that's a disgrace. A sensible amount would be for you to eat around 1700 calories a day. I am 5ft 5 and weigh 16st 9lbs and that's what has been recommended for me. I also have a very long way to go.... and I'm taking it slowly (I'm on a weightloss wagon, not a weighloss ferarri). Stick with it, it'll be slow and you'll have bad days but you'll get there if you keep getting back on the wagon.
Have to put ds to bed - be back later cos I need some advice on the "plan" this trainer at the gym gave me.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -

Ooh, what a nasty [STRIKE]@$%£@#[/STRIKE] person!
Rosemary Conley do a quick start programme which is 1200 calories a day, but it's only intended to be followed for the first two weeks, then it's increased to 1500. Many years ago I asked for advice about losing weight after I'd had a baby, and my midwife advised followed a 1000 calorie a day diet. I did it, and managed to lose two stone, but I made myself ill as a result. It really isn't enough.

Hi Everyone,
Well, I went to see the trainer at the gym today and whilst I can't fault his advice on excercise (20 minutes on the bike, 20 minutes on the handbike and 10 minutes on the x trainer - all to be developed 5 times a week which won't be easy). I'm not too sure about the eating plan that he recommends, so can you advice me.....
Foods allowed: rice, potatoes, sweet potato, pasta oats, green veg, tomatoes, onions, egg white, fresh fish turkey breast, chicken breast, sirloin steak, protein bars, tinne tuna & extra virgin olive oil. (simple enough)
Food not allowed: sweets, bisuits, crisps, icecream, no soft drinks (diet or otherwise, no diluting squash, no ready meals or tinned food, no salt or sugar, no MILK OR DAIRY PRODUCTS, no bread.
Ok, here's the thing - I know that most of this is fine and accepted practise when you're losing weight, but to cut out fruit, red, yellow & orange vegetables and all dairy products. I'm not too sure if I'll be able to maintain this plan. .... He noticed my negativity almost straight away and commented on it. SO - do I do my own thing (low fat & calorie counting) or do I follow his plan Thanks

dellybelly, i think cutting out dairy and bread may well be a 'good idea' for weight loss, but it doesnt strike me as very sensible as bread (wholegrain) is very filling and a good source of fibre, and without any dairy products you may find yourself deficient in calcium.
(i'm no expert by the way, far from it, just my opinion)
also, he seems to be promoting a lot of protein-rich full foods, that may be higher in fat. obviously everyone needs protein, but a sirloin steak is allowed and yet tomatoes, bananas, and bread aren't??? bizarre in my opinion
Anyway, even proven 'diets' like slimming world allow small amounts of milk or cheese for calcium reasons, and fibre is very important for weight loss also. i assume the pasta he has allowed needs to be brown rather than white??
To be honest, i would do a 50/50 with that plan. A lot of what he has said is obvious (ie lots of veg...no sweets...etc) but one set diet will not suit everyone, and you need to address your own personal needs and abilities. there's no point embarking on a strict diet that's too difficult and will end up making you miserable and/or unsuccessful. Perhaps just include some skimmed milk when you need it, a little bread here and there...i mean, dairy and bread are not that bad and surely everything in moderation/a little of what you need (ie. a balanced diet) is a much better 'diet' than cutting things out completely and challenging your body and mind beyond reasonable expectations.
Did any of that make sense?
feels a bit like i was rambling, sorry!
Anyway, hope everyone's well. i'm stressed up to the eyeballs with revision (last exam soon!) and have devoured a bag of M&Ms (er...everything in moderation?? no didnt think that would be a good enough excuse...well, my brain runs on chocolate but luckily i will only need it to work for two more days, then it can go back to sleep!!)
