You have basically answered your own question there :j like you many other people have nver really tried anywhere else. Ebay has the buyers, the sellers want the buyers so both use ebay.
I have an ebid account and have tried them a couple of times now and frankly it was a waste of a few hours of my life. Even at lower prices I couldn't even attract anyone to as much as look at my auctions let alone bid..so I gave up relisted the stuff on ebay and sold the lot.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Don't give up on ebid, until there are some true competitors to ebay, ebay will just keep ramping up the fees, as it has been doing. The money, Dave...0 -

Communication is 4.7. I have an automatic ebay email thing to say thank you for purchase, where to dispatch the cheque to and how long the item will take to dispatch on paypal, cheque and postal order payment (simply cos i got fed up with the emails the next day asking when will the item be dispatched, even though it clearly says on the listings)
Item as described is 4.9
Can't they re-define the postal cost to postage cost as described?
I do agree with this - to a point - the problem is that it is postage and packaging. For some items packaging can be a £1 or more.
If the box said "was the p&p increased by more than a reasonable amount" I would be really happy.
The number of people who add £2/£3 or more to the cost for an item which cost £1 to post with no expense for packaging is amazing.0 -
No real complaints about the star system. Mine is currently 4.9 on all categories after 40 ratings. Bragging - yes of course I am!
My main complaint is the feedback system in general. As a seller there is always a temptation to delay giving feedback until after buyer has left feedback for you, especially after an unreasonable buyer has left what you think is an unfair comment. Then you have the feedback extortionist ---give me a rebate on postage or I'll neg you--- etc. I have gone through phases of this and now tend not to give feedback on buyers with low or poor feedback records until I see what will happen.
Postage is a continuing problem for sellers especially if you sell larger or difficult to pack items. Some buyers seem to think that the time taken to pack an item, the materials used, and the time and transport costs to get the item posted should be free and they should only pay the actual Royal Mail charge. The postage charges in sellers ads form a part of the sale contract and as a buyer it should be easy to work out if you think the postal charges are reasonable. If not don't bid! Equally if I make a hash of calculating the postage cost I always honour the price in my ads and swallow any extra cost.0 -
My stars are static at 4.8 even though the last 10 feedback I've had this week have all been gushing praise (it' s getting embarrassing:p ).
I assume that most buyers aren't giving detailed ratings, I bought a new vax hose from a massive power seller on monday and it arrived tuesday morning, he'd given me pos feedback as soon as I paid! I gave him 5 stars for everything, especially as I now have a large mailing sack and tons of bubblewrap, as well as a fully functioning vax once more."There is a light that never goes out"0 -
Those other two auction sites need to advertise (a bit more?) I had never heard of them until this thread.0

I've finally got my stars as I don't sell that much.
As described - 5
Communication - 4.8 - even though I always send an email to say the item's been dispatched.
Dispatch time - 4.7 - this annoys me most. I say on my auctions I'll dispatch within 2 days and 90% are posted next day with anything else always sent on the 2nd day.
P&P - 4.8 - fair enough as sometimes I'm too lazy to change my prices when I sell smaller items than normal, so I do make a little extra in those cases.
Not bad, and I'm pleasantly surprised to have 5 for 'as described' (though there's no reason not to), but it seems some people are just never happy about the dispatch times. It'll be interesting to see how they change as I sell more stuff.0 -
trouble is nearly all buyers want their item 'yesterday' and anything else is just not good enough, even if rm take longer than usual to deliver their goods.Dispatch time - 4.7 - this annoys me most. I say on my auctions I'll dispatch within 2 days and 90% are posted next day with anything else always sent on the 2nd day.0 -
Some folks have no idea how much postage costs, that is some of the problem with their leaving poor feedback on the new star system.
I love it - particularly since I can slate those Sellers who don't post for 7/10/14 days after payment has been made. They are keen enough to take the money - all paid by paypal incidentally, immediate payment - no echeques, etc.0
