I've complained to ebay, mainly because I think this new system is rubbish.

I always state clearly on the details do not bid if not happy with my postage and packaging costs. I do make a bit extra on postage (not much) but I allow this for the packaging and also I have to drive to the post office. I am marked as 4.6. Why should my rating be lower just because people don't read things properly.

Communication is 4.9. I always thank someone for bidding and tell them when I have despatched the item. There's never been a problem so why somebody has marked me down on that, I just don't know!!

Feedback is so wide open to abuse anyway, and the stars just make it worse...

Pity Tazbar does not seem to have kicked off...

Pointless waste of time. Here's why: no buyer is really going to take much notice of a star rating unless it's below 4. I've never seen one below 4.5, let alone below 4 - and I have a strong suspicion that most sellers would be NARU'd before their star rating had a chance of dipping that low.

And since the data is all amalgamated, any seller who's racked up a reasonable volume of sales could quite easily get given zeros by everyone for a whole week and it wouldn't change their star rating at all. It wastes people's time and doesn't really tell you anything much at all that you couldn't see from feedback.

For those of you worrying about ratings dipping from 4.9 to 4.8 or somesuch nonsense ... do you really think that any buyer is going to not buy from you on the basis of a 0.1 change in star rating? No .. at best, they will glance at it and think hmm, they've got almost 5 stars on everything.

I'm not going to bother leaving any star ratings - and I'm certainly not going to change anything about my service as a result of them.

The only positive side I can think of is that it gives people an outlet to give a 'bad' rating without leaving a negative/neutral feedback. I'd much prefer to receive a 1 star rating from someone on something than a neg/neutral - and if giving the one star satisfies their malicious urge instead then so much the better .. because no-one will ever know!

most buyers pay me with a chq. they'll then score the 'delivery time' star lower because they had to wait for their chq to clear.

the least ebay ought to do is make it a 2 way thing, so the stars can be given out for how the buyer performed.

Yes please...-1* for the idiot who once asked me where his item was even though I had to open an NPB on him due to non payment..he assured me that I was the scammer as I was expecting payment before he had a chance to receive and inspect the goods.

As for overall ratings I've seen a few now in the 3.5 range for post and packing, usually those 'standard sellers rate ' who charge £3.99 for everything including the T shirt my son wanted.

The lowest on mine is postage 4.6

Communication is 4.7. I have an automatic ebay email thing to say thank you for purchase, where to dispatch the cheque to and how long the item will take to dispatch on paypal, cheque and postal order payment (simply cos i got fed up with the emails the next day asking when will the item be dispatched, even though it clearly says on the listings)

    Item as described is 4.9

Can't they re-define the postal cost to postage cost as described?

Well I have had an answer back from eBay for my complaint, but it just looks like a standard response.

If enough people complain perhaps they will backtrack?

    Or maybe not!!

Think of all the people with ebay shops who complained, and were ignored...

Are any other auction sites any good I've never really tried them?
