getting fed up with ebay's new star rating

You just can't please some people!
Very true. It makes no difference what I charge for postage on my various selling accounts I seem to hover at the 4.7-4-9 range even where I've made a loss (accidentally!). Yet the buyer I paid £4.99 to for a t shirt sent recorded is trading at 4.7 stars for post and packing...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I never look at the rating figures as such, I glance to see how fast their delivery is - that is fairer to my way of thinking.0

Now I'm cross....my main selling account just dropped to 4.6 for post and packing and the two feedback I received since I last happened to check had 'cost' me postage. One I charged £2.40 and it cost £2.30 plus 20 something pence for a very large envelope, the other was a book where I had charged £1.52 in total and used a 12p envelope and paid postage of £1,52!
I might as well put my postage back up to what it was (usually around 20-80p more than actual stamp cost) as my postage stars rating was actually higher then

It's change for change's sake. Why do you have to write a comment AND tick stars for various aspects?
If it was slow to arrive, you just mention it in your comment.
Ebay is just becoming more and more messy. Simplicity is what it's all about. I still get annoyed about all the various methods of getting to leave feedback pages. And they mess about with tick boxes for 'item dispatched', 'payment received', 'print postage'. I'm an individual, not a business.0 -
Well I have 4.7 for postage and it will be staying like that, its as though ebay want to push sellers to include some of the postal costs in their item price. I don't think I overcharge on p&p but do include the packaging cost in the p&p. Buyers can see the p&p price BEFORE they buy - thats the time to query p&p not after winning the item.
If you'e got 4.7 then chances are nobody's actually rated your p&p as less than reasonable. 4 is "reasonable" and 5 "very reasonable", so an average somewhere in between is not a problem as far as I'm concerned.0 -
some people here seem to think that its the end of the world for them to have a 4.7 or 4.8 rating on any particular criteria, calm down people!!
my current ratings are 4.8 4.7 4.7 4.8 (the last one went up a notch today) and i don't have a problem with it
it is a good idea overall, but ebay can only provide the platform, they cant hold the buyers hand for every transaction to ensure perfect implementation.
the 2 criteria that most buyers seem to have a problem with are p&p and dispatch time. with p&p most buyers only seem to take into consideration the cost of the postage label/stamp, and with dispatch time they seem to forget that 2nd class deliveries can take anything up to 3 working days, and the seller has no control over the item once its in a post box or in a mail sack at the post office.
but that's life, lets get over it!0 -

does annoy me a bit too, i can hand on heart say i always do things 100%...but some tit has still marked me down?!?!
just seems a bit pointless, i only ever charge bare minimum for postage, contact is made at end of auction and within an hour of an email/question (work from home) items are always posted the very next day.
Just doesnt seem very accurate system, misleading

I'm just dealing with a seller that has those automated emails in place. The most annoying thing in the world. I clicked BIN, payed via PP immediately and by the time I had finished my yahoo inbox was full of pointless emails - thank you for your purchase, thank you for your payment, thank you for breathing, your custom is very important to us, your item was dispatched (not on a sunday evening it's not!), please shop with us again. Is that a five star communication? Well, they can keep it. I email to say the item has been dispatched, thank you and that's all the voluntary comms you get, so of course my stars are 4.7/8s
And soolin, I never changed how I charge for p&p, which is 50-100p over the stamp and I have scores like you, so don't worry about it.:wall:0
