Reduced bargains and yellow stickers shopping

I normally don't bother with the reduced fruit & veg, in the Tesco by me by the time it is reduced it is normally battered and beginning to rot. The bakery is a bit hit & miss, sometimes it's only pennies off something with a really short date so I don't bother, but last week I got a big birthday cake reduced from £6.50 to 98p, still with weeks left until the best-before-date, just a slight bump to the box. Plus a squished battenburg for 15p, again still well within date. The chilled section is my favorite for reductions, as I just freeze everything. I very rarely buy full price meat, it's normally it least half price, but it is getting more and more competitive.
Got a surprise bargain in Boots yesterday (not somewhere I normally shop, I was just waiting for a friend), 10p for smoothies. If you don't like where you are - move. You are not a tree.0 -

2 recent observations from me, comments are welcome:
1. 2 for 7, 3 for 10 offers work with yellow sticker meat etc. I recently picked up 3 packs of yellow sticker braising steak (still in good condition) that had been reduced to 80p each. 3 for 2.40 GBP but got 2 GBP off as it was in a '3 for £10' offer.... so 40p for 3 packs of good quality braising steak!
2. A couple of nights ago a woman in my local Tescos piled her basket high (and I mean literally overflowing) with yellow sticker fruit & veg, then just as the man came round after 8pm reducing the prices she emptied it all out on his basket and got him to reduce everything in her basket, like 5p avocados etc. No-one else got a look in! She had literally picked up everything that was about to be reduced and bagged it all for herself. Other people were complaining and tried to take things from the basket but she was having none of it - absolute bare faced cheek. Nearly came to blows!0 -

In my local Mr T when doing subsequent reductions the staff will only take stuff from the shelf themselves to prevent this. If someone tries to hand them something to further reduce they say no. That way when it is reduced it is put in a basket or on the shelf and anyone can pick it up. Some people really have no shame. What a selfish woman.Aiming to be debt free as of Sept 2013

i was at asda last sunday when they reduced all their sandwichs (all tuna mayo and veggie ones) down to 10p and this woman shoved her trolley through everyone and took a chunk out of the back of my leg in the process and pick up every sandwich (around 25-30) and when confronted she said she going to freeze them. i think this was a case of pure greed as i doubt they will be very nice after defrosting0

I can't believe how savage some shoppers are. I saw a few years ago an old lady take a chunk out of the reduction lassie's hand with her nails as she grabbed for a reduced item
Today at the Co-Op I got:
Duck fillets - 99p from 4.00
12 rolls - 25p down from 1.50
Lettuce - 19p down from 65p
Happy happy happy.
Can't remember the last time we paid full price for bread/rolls :j0 -
I got quite a lot in Morrisons today, bread, hovis, white and wholemeal, one of the big famers loaves I think they call them, 29p, got some rosemary 19p, coriander leaves 19p, got 2 tubs of hummous for 25p each, 2 lots of fresh pasta for 35p each, 3 small loaves of soda bread for 25p each, they tend to reduce quite early in the day, got that at around 4pm. I try not to buy bread or rolls full price either, I dont eat much bread to be honest, I share my yellow stickered bread with my mum and some of it I feed the local birds with as well, but Im happy to pay 25p for a loaf instead of £1.50 which some of them are. I do like soda bread though.
Ive never had any real hard times getting yellow stickered stuff, only time I saw someone make off with everything that was reduced was in tescos and oddly enough was a load of rhubarb. As soon as it hit the shelf, someone grabbed the lot.0 -
I usually leave my trolley to one side out of the way of other shoppers.
A polite manner and not being greedy nearly always work in your favour.
Nice - unlike some people who carefully position their trolley across the discount section to make it harder for others to access the YS items. Another ploy is to use mum/gran/sister as an accomplice to assist with the blocking tactic.0 -

Depends on what chain you are in - doesnt work this way everywhere, though off the top of my head I cannot remember which ones.0 -
