They may well have been these with the lids cut off, but if that is the case they are not an accurate guide for small parcels ?

For under 1.5kg, DespatchBay packets are cheaper.
Clever of you to find that out - I had to give up trying to get at their prices: you have to register first and the registration process didn't accept my answers (without any clue as to which answer/s they're not happy about)!!!

    Cheers - Eric

Probably volume. How much do you send?

I posted earlier about the 15cm cubes we ordered from Boxbargain: http://www.boxbargain.co.uk/goods/go...0000&pCode=079

They duly arrived next day and we're very impressed with the quality. They're thinner-walled than our usual brand (Macro Packaging), which means that they're bigger internally. However the cardboard is much stiffer so they're stronger. They are heavier though at 100gm compared with 66gm for the slightly larger 6in inside diameter cubes from Macro Packaging.

We'll certainly be using them for the UK where the extra weight is very unlikely to mean higher postage now that Royal Mail has increased the lowest price band to 1000gm.

Having measured them they're definitely under the 16cm cube limit, even with tape and labels, so they count as "small parcels" for UK post.

We'll use the Macro Packaging ones solely for overseas parcels where weight is more important because of the 250gm pricing bands. There's no size limit for overseas parcels, so the fact that these ones are just too big to qualify as small parcels to UK address is irrelevant.

The person I spoke to..( a large seller on ebay) was saying royal mail adds the fuel duty ( 2.5%) and THEN the vat.

I don't think Royal Mail charges VAT at the moment (despite EU pressure)?

I don't recall a q about volume - but my volume has been pretty low till now as I've always used Royal Mail.... So maybe that's it!

    Thanks!

I took a small parcel to my friendly local postie on Wednesday. Thought it was ok, but it only squeezed through the slot. He told me that if he took it, it would most certainly be checked at the other end, and the recipient would be requested to pay the surcharge.

I took the parcel home, cut down a box and then took it back - this time it went through the slot. Cannot afford to have customers being asked to pay surcharges for under-payment of postage.

Have ordered postal tubes, as it is too much work to cut down and re-size my boxes. At least I can still use my boxes for overseas.

Royal Mail do not pull any post that as the post office printed stamps on. The buyer would not have paid any extra if you were paying at the PO.

They only pull self stamped post.

Does that include online pre-paid labels?
