And who should I compare them with?

They carry my parcels from A to B same as any other other parcel carrier, if they choose to be classed as something different that is their own doing not mine, I will compare them with others that provide the same or similar services e.g. Collect Plus, Myhermes etc.

Despatch Bay is reasonable priced if you send more then 2/3 items a day and they are all within the 16x16x16 size but they use RM for their small packet service so the sizes will be tied in exactly the same way.

The other thing with RM is the Next Day SD 2kg-10kg is £25.80 how can they justify there not being another band in there. Now don't get me wrong I understand the need for price rises but they have to be realistic. The way they have done it with the size restrictions has meant the cost of some items has almost doubled for me!!!

My local Parcelforce guy mentioned they were taking on at least 20mill parcels from the 100mill RM were losing, the other couriers will get the rest. It will be sink or swim for some of them if they can cope then there may well be some proper competition to Royal Mail in a few years.

They dont choose to be classed differently
they are legally obliged to be different
    this competition you refer to?
where have they been since the market opened up?
Those 20 million Parcelforce have 'taken'
    where does that money go?
I think you are being a little naive on the 'aims' of RM and its shareholders

With the removal of Standard Parcels there is nothing to really compare those services with. Even 2nd class often arrives next day. MyHermes has the worst reputation in the industry so the risks are higher. If risk and delivery timescales are not important to you then those services are worth considering. However they don't compare well with RM services.

That band for SD has always been high, not just with the price rises. Use a courier for that band instead - thats what most of us have been doing for years.

You do realise that ParcelForce is part of the Royal Mail group?

Reading the thread I will be looking to go with myhermes £2.75 plus vat per parcel but I think I have to print all labels which I am sure will be very time consuming and I will go through more ink/paper, no alternative really unless anyone has any other suggestions. No drop off points near me

No other suggestions, but paper and ink are both cheap on ebay.

With myHermes it is only 1 piece of paper printed for the label. Also don't forget to have your printer set as 'fast draft' as default for all printing and just change it back to better quality print as when required. It works for me, l get a lot more prints that way.

How did you post them before this? You would have had to put some form of address on surely? My adhesive labels cost about 5 for a penny.

Handwritten? Recycling packaging materials from purchased items?

I'm an occasional ebay seller - just having a clear out and selling off a few bits here and there. Trying to make sense of the new RM prices - I've looked on the website and am totally confused. Am I right in thinking that a small packet will have to be less than 20cm long?

If I'm reading that correctly, that would mean a fairly light item (say, 400g) that will currently go 2nd class for a couple of quid, will no longer be eligible for small packet? I can't make sense of the website (despite the big friendly letters saying 'parcels made easy' :undecided ), but I'm thinking I will have to use a courier in future? I've used parcel2go a few times and their prices have worked out around the £3/£4 mark. Is this what RM see as the way forward?
Same here - I am just having a declutter. Any money made is for house renovations. I always post RM but it will be too expensive.

I'm helping my nephew find a decent postal arrangement. He is running a small business selling clothing (new). Presently he uses Royal Mail.

Has anyone used ParcelForce for sending roughly 5 parcels a day? Some are smallish packets large letter size but some are bulky. Do Parcel Force collect and are they only good for big parcels. I said I'd do some research for him but I'm getting really confused! He would ideally like a collection from home.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

He needs to discuss a contract with Parcel Force to get a good price. I send 2 parcels a day through Parcel Force and am scheduled for a daily collection. Some days I may send 5 parcels and others none, and I just text the driver if I don't need him to come.
