Do they give you sacks according to the type of items you post, I post lots of bulky light weight items and sometimes after a week end I can carry 3 bin bags to the PO for posting.
Also when I was enquiring at my local Crown office yesterday about dropping off, they said it will now be changing due to sizing coming in 2nd April, so my local PO thinks sizing will be applicable to business mail also, she didn't believe me when I said I that wasn't the case.

    thanks

so basically do I weigh EVERY parce and put the exact weight gms per parcel, or do you just say they are under a kg?
Depends which service you use. If you send less than 1000 parcels a year then you need to separate the parcels into the different weight bands, weigh each group and average the weight, making a separate entry in OBA for each weight band and class.

If over a 1000 parcels and you qualify for the RM24/48 services then you should be able to just average all the parcel weights per class. I say 'should' because the assumption is that it will be the same as it is currently for PacketPost but I've not seen it confirmed anywhere yet.

The sacks vary slightly in size but you don't really get a choice in what you get. You use the same ones and fill them full of parcels or for just one overseas padded envelope!

The new sizing is applicable to some business services I believe but definitely not to the new RM24/48 services.

No problem giving out your PPI number - everyone you send an item to will see it from now on anyway.

You'll get mail sacks, PPI labels, zip ties, recorded delivery labels/book and maybe a few other bits if you're signed up for Special Delivery and Airmail.

Keep an eye on your supplies and re-order them at least a couple of weeks before you run out as they can take ages to arrive. The sacks are the biggest problem - are you dropping mail off or getting a collection?

    Very helpful thanks.
I am still waiting for the supplies, including Air Mail.
I will be dropping mail off as the P.O. is very close to me and I don't qualify for free collections.

I've never had to order the sacks as my collection posties sort them out for me but I have heard people having problems ordering them in. It might be worth you speaking to the post office and asking if they can get extra ones delivered there for you. If you are not VAT registered then some services like Special Delivery might be cheaper for you via the PO than through the OBA (check the prices to be sure) so you can always keep the PO sweet by saying you will still give them that custom.

I think I will still use the P.O. to send certain items, if I want proof of posting for example (sometimes you get a feeling about buyers...).
I have been using that Post Office for over 2 years, daily, so they should be fine!

Not a bad idea if you're going there anyway as you will not be able to claim for any losses for any OBA deliveries sent via standard or recorded services (this includes standard airmail). Special Del, Airsure and ISF are still ok.
  • So, checking out the new pricing pdf, am I right in thinking that international parcel sizes are staying the same and its just UK sizes that are changing?

Airmail has only been letter and parcel and as far as I can see that has not changed.

Incidentally, my cardboard gauge arrived this morning together with an A4 explanation sheet which is needlessly complicated- one of those pathway things. If it fits through slot A then it is a letter, if however it fits through slot A but is wider than the grey area go to step B. etc.....

International packages were never determined on size anyway. Whether its a letter or small packet/parcel is down to the contents of it, not its size or weight.

    Ha! yes of course!
One last question - what size PPI label do you recommend which will include all the necessary info? is 70x40mm enough for parcels? I think I will 1000 ordered from Ebay to start me off...
