Small post offices are allowed to refuse parcels on health and safety grounds if they haven't got space for them. So question I'm weighing up is 'Do I pay Royal Mail £775+VAT for collection? If so, do I do it now or wait and see if I have a problem and then have a panic in December when they're refused and have to see if I can get collections arranged then?'0

I have a Royal Mail business account, bag my post into RM bags, attached a label and a copy of my order, and dop off at my local sorting office. Is that an option for you ?You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Our post office is a 3min walk away. Sorting office is a 12 mile round trip by car. If I were to claim fuel at 45p/mile that's £5.40 per day. Nearly £2/day more expensive than collections.0 -

well thats up to you to weigh up
nobody can really give you an answer past your own costs
however do you leave the house for other stuff?
EG I would pass my local RM office most days whilst doing the nursery run anyway
so on those costs it wold be about 45p total0 -

I understand what you're saying, but it's a special trip to the post office anyway.0 -
Ive finally started using Parcels2go for items that are bigger and heavier, I used to weigh the items and then goto the royal mail price finder tool website to get a price, recently I sold a job lot of a item and combined weight was nearly 20kg, royal mail advised roughly £20-£25. Looked at parcels2go and Yodel collect and deliver for £12 (with VAT). I now wont touch the royal mail for bigger items.
Just one quickie, so if I normally send a light parcel say 120g and its to thick to fit through there letterbox measure (normally costs £2.20 2nd class) what would it be going upto and when?0 -

All th elinks are in the first few posts, it is a little complicated this time so it pays to actually check the exact dimensions to see whether it will be a small or medium parcel.
The PDF is here (but still really worth reading some of the posts on this thread as well)
