I wonder how many folks objecting to the Murdochs, own a German or Japanese car. Footy fans would not have a premiership if it was not for Sky TV,
It's a chicken or egg situation though: There would be no Sky TV without football. If Murdoch relied on movies and drama, SKY would have gone bust in no time.

I'm not so sure. It tends to be who the contract is between. The current deal is between you and a company called O2 (Telefonica) where as it will now be with a company called Sky.

You haven't agreed to this in a contract.
I do take your point, but at the moment the consensus appears to be that there are no grounds to cancel the contract. If there are though, I certainly will.

Service will go downhill now, and we will be paying a tyrant

Naah, you might find the service to be better.

I jumped ship from O2 last summer (was on one of the old unthrottled legacy packages).

Couldn't be happier with Sky. I connect faster (sync speed of 19Meg - with O2 it was 15.5Meg. Same physical line) and there's been no slowdowns or contention, so similar quality to O2.

The fact that it's cost me £0 for a year helps as well of course! (£10 a month, 6 months free and £60 Quidco).

We've been with O2 broadband for about 4.5 years and I've managed to keep the cost quite low I think. I think the customer service from O2 is second to none with a freephone number and helpful staff.
Hear! Hear! Excellent all round from o2 and I for one will be sorry to see them go! Every decent company gets swallowed up in the end! Mind you they were owned by Telefonica anyway.

Surly under contract law the contract was agreed with O2 and not Sky. Can we not as customers object to being "transferred" to sky?

Surly they can't make you have sky line rental if you don't have it now? That would be a whole different contract and terms and conditions.

No. Any company is at perfect liberty to sell it's contracts on if it wants to. The point here is what happens if Sky want to modify those contracts, which we don't yet know. For the moment the line is simply that 'everything will continue as before'.

    The correct answer is "yes"!

This is from the horse's mouth:

    http://www.o2.co.uk/broadband/broadbandchanges

Can I still use my o2.co.uk email address?

Yes. When your service moves to Sky you'll still to be able to use your o2.co.uk email address with a reduced storage allowance of 20MB.

I've been a BE customer for nearly six years. Have nothing but praise for them. But it seems time to go. Luckily FTTC is arriving at the back end of this year.

Yes that seems to be correct as I was speaking to a legal expert about this last night. The break can / will come IF/WHEN they make any change to the terms and conditions / service they provide.

    What seems clear is:

They can't force you onto Sky line rental without you having the option to leave
They can't remove your static IP as this would be "unreasonable changes"
Even the speed quality and service provided has to be "comparable" to that your experiencing now

There are quite a few legal terms. Seems this is a case of wait and see what happens.
