Stand a bowl of icecubes in front of the fan, make the blown air cooler.

I really hate the hot weather, as does my dog. When it gets really hot, we have a couch each and sleep in the lounge with the aircon on  , not at all OS i know:rotfl: :rotfl: :D .

We appear to be in for quite a heatwave, so much so that the nhs has been put on alert. Keeping cool is just as important as being warm in the winter

    This is what I do:
keep the windows closed if the outside temperature is likely to be going higher than the ambient inside temperature

close the doors to sunny rooms, to stop the heat spreading to other parts of your home

drop the blinds and draw the curtains on the sunny side of the house

    Made ice lollies without sugar

I already have a cooler ie fan cabinet with a water soaked sponge

I have ironed the kaftans :rotfl:( honest) and they are ready to wear

Do jobs slowly but if I get overheated then I run cold water over the inside of my wrists and eat an ice lolly

    What do you do?

I open the windows and back door on as many days as I can - that way there's a flow of air through the house, keeping in cool and aired ;) I find drinking plenty of water helps keep me cool :D

I'll add this to Keeping Cool in Warm Weather later.

When my DS was very little it would get up to 35 degrees in his room. My parents bought an air con unit to use and it was soooooo noisy. It was good to reduce the room temp but the noise was pretty off putting.

I find opening the windows better as the breeze flows through the house.
I don't wear socks or slippers when it get really hot and try and spend as much time on my back patio in the shade. We have an oscillating (sp?) fan which I find more helpful than the ceiling ones as the ceiling ones make me feel like they just push the warm air down rather than blow the cooler air over you IYSWIM. Also sleep with a sheet rather than a duvet at night.
If all else fails then break out DS paddling pool ;)

I stay indoors as much as possible. Seems to be cooler there at the mo than outside. But hard to stay cool here as idiots in the flats below us seem to still have the heating on :0

I open the windows early in the morning for fresh air, get them closed again by 9.30/10-ish before it starts to heat up and from then until the evening I keep the curtains closed. This was the advice given out during a heatwave some years ago and I've found it works well. I often open the windows again in the evening for an hour or so if its cooled down outside.

Where possible I do any outside jobs early morning or late afternoon/early evening. I used to be a real sun worshipper but heat affects me quite badly now I'm older; I never get much done on a really hot day so I just pace myself and concentrate on the essentials. And I make sure I'm drinking enough tea and water ;)

I have a pattern somewhere for a cooling necktie - I'll be back if I can find it  Here's one link though not the one I was looking for (which was Australian I think), same idea though.
