The Great 'Ways to keep cool' Hunt

Have a coolish shower, just under body temperature. If you have a cold shower, the body tries to heat up as it thinks you've gone too cold. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Anyone have any ideas for stying cool at work? I work upstairs in a clothing warehouse (where not only does the heat rise, but we're also insulated by the clothes), have no windows to open and no aircon
really looking forward to going in tomorrow0 -
I've started carrying one of those small bottles of hand hygiene gel in my bag especially to slap on the old tootsies when my feet get unbearably hot. I find it's wonderfully cooling and helps with any whiffs...:o:p0

Here's what we have been doing in our house.
Blocked out all light from the windows - now we are stumbling around in the dark!
We are using fans (dreading the leccy bill
Using those blue plastic ice pack food thingimijigs for keeping cool in bed - they last longer than the hot water bottle, but using those too.
I have two mini ones I freeze for my ds to put in his pockets, as he has to wear smart trousers for his job.
I am going to try the turning off hot water.
Spritzer bottles with a little frozen overnight then filled next morning. Take a while to get going.
Cold flannels in water in box in fridge.
Face wipes kept in fridge. (To take to work)
Water in bottle in freezer overnight, then topped up in the morning.
Even the cat has clicked that he should sleep under the fan. Poor soul in that fur coat!!
That's all I can think of for now.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Am trying to convince OH about the keeping curtains closed thing, but he still doesn't beleive me!
We're suffering at the moment becuase in order to have hot water we have to have half the rads on (awful old sentral heating) plus the boiler itself (which is in the already hot kitchen) kicks out a lot of heat. So either we have no baths and don't wash up (flies are loving my kitchen) or we roast to bits! Am going to have words with landlord about it later, if nothing else perhaps we can get an immersion heater. Can't even turn rads off as some idiot has painted over the valve bits!
Bought a fan from Amazon the other day, pedestal type, £17 with free delivery and it is sooooo nice. Having to use it in the kitchen when cooking as the kitchen windows open into the greenhouse and (mainly glass) utility room!
Am pregnant with 2 toddlers so really needing to keep us all cool at the moment.
Have been letting kids outside from early morning until abut 10.30, then keeping them for the hottest part of the day, until about 3.30 when the house is actually hotter than outside, then we go and sit in the shade in the garden. Haven't dared go into town this week as I don't fancy pushing pushchair up steep hills in this heat!
Have been freezing OH's juice carton for his packed lunch, then putting it in the the morning so it keeps his food cool and is nice and refreshing. I feel so sorry for him out gardening in this sun!
His best tip is drenching his sun hat under the tap, then wearing it wet. As the water evaporated it takes the heat away from his head!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

We have all the windows and porch door open (I don't like the front/back doors open as I have 2 littlies) for a through draft. I have the tower fan on where the littlies are - they are stripped to nappies as even in sun dresses were getting clammy poor things. I am trying to follow official advice that is to not do too much - easier said than done, but it does help to take it slowly.
I had some OJ lollies in the freezer but hadn't filled them enough so the sticks just came straight out the lolliesI let them thaw a bit so they slipped out then blended them up with a bit more water to make slushes and served in a beaker with a straw. DD is loving it! To re-fill the washed moulds, I made up some dried milk and flavoured with some cherry juice - they taste just like I remember the pink mini-milks I used to have years ago! So those are in the freezer awaiting tomorrow...

Paper fans are very easy to make and can be as plain or fancy as you like; a couple of years ago I helped my dgd make one. She glitter-painted it, hung pretty beads from ribbon tied around the 'handle' and presented it to her mum - my dd loved it. We used lining paper from a roll which made quite a big sturdy fan, or you could use thin card or even a pretty wallpaper sample - sorry B&Q
There are loads of instructions on the net but here's a couple of links if anyone is interested; this one is plain and simple, and this one is fancy enough for a summer wedding. If I can find the link that we used I'll post it as it was so pretty.
keep cool peeps!
edited to add: this is the pattern we used; we didn't glue it, I punched a hole a couple of inches from the bottom and threaded ribbon in and round both sides of the paper.
I remember making these when I was little! I think I might make some with DD tomorrow. I just found some pretty stick-on glitter things I used to wear when going out years ago , so I think we will use those to decorate them. Thanks!Love and compassion to all x0 -

Theres a post on an American blog I follow thats got some useful hints for us in it:
http://livingthefrugallife.blogspot.com/2009/07/july-frugal-action-item-stay-cool.html
...always worth looking at these U.S. hints on this - as many of them have more extreme temperatures than we do...
In fact - I think probably the most useful thing I could do to keep cool would be to "junk the job" ( I wish) - as many of my colleagues dont even try to acclimate to the heat (ie the bloggers comments about 2/3 weeks to do so) - so I can see I am going to fare much better in hot weather once I no longer work with all the colleagues who feel the heat much more than me...0 -
Would a fan be better blowing out the bedroom window at night to expel the hot air, or in front of the window blowing in to suck cool air in?
(all other upstairs windows and doors are open to create the "stack effect")0
