Basically, all websites have running costs (as does MSE) and these running costs generally increase as more and more people visit that site - known as bandwidth costs, and other things like server costs, etc.
Now this site doesn't display adverts but at a guess this means that MSE Martin himself funds this site out of his own pocket (bandwidth costs, etc). In contrast, saynoto0870, which also has to be funded is funded by donations and adverts to keep the site running. Google offer a facility called AdSense that enables websites to display adverts based on what is on that particular website (eg saynoto0870.com). As saynoto0870 mentions "0870" a lot then Google's AdSense thinks people are interested in 0870 numbers, etc and displays these adverts on saynoto0870 website.0 -

Mentioned number of times before usually by NGN suppliers.
The reason why this happens is clearly explained on the https://www.saynoyo0870.com site.
Talking of double standards see the site https://www.saynoto0870.org.uk which has been regd by a NGN supplier, providing 0870 numbers.PF.0 -
I can understand saynoto0870 having ads. on its site for 0870 numbers. There have been quite a few contributors to these forums who advocate getting your own 0870 number and giving this out to all commercial organisations who you deal with. This way they give back a little of the cash they make from us. I haven't bothered myself but understand the logic. Also the 0870 site does give loads of geographical numbers which help to avoid these dreaded 0870 numbers. But of course the site has to be funded, would any of us fund the site - I doubt it. What we need is a campaign by a national newpaper to show up this blight that has been allowed to inflict itself on us. The Daily Telegraph ran a few articles after the London bombings when the emergency helpline was an 0870 number, but it wasn't front page stuff. In the USA no respected company would dream of charging its customers to phone them, every call is tollfree and the same thing should happen here."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

Hi,
Don't know if this will help any one but i have just descovered that 0870 numbers come out of my free mins on O2. so if you really have to dial a 0870 number and have the free mins to spare then use your mobile. (check with your operator first to make sure the 0870 call will go towards your free mins.0 -

Aiadi wrote:Hi, what is the best (& cheapest) way to get a local or national number and use it to get some revenue? Thanks in advance for the advice. :rotfl:
Local and national numbers begin 01/02 they cost the same amount of money to call wherever they are in the country and do not generate revenue, I think you mean 0845/0870/0871, personaly I am against them and would not be so hypocritcal as to obtain one for my own use.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

The cheapest provider i have seen lately is Telecom World https://www.twplc.co.uk
Free connection.Free Rental.Choice of number. 0845/0870 & 0871
I have no problem in giving them out to people like banks, inland revenue, etc etc i have one myself for this purpose.PF.0 -
I was contacting a friend at the halls of residence of the London School of Ecconomics, they gave me an 0870 number to chat to my friend. This also applies to an international incomming call as they have 0044 0870 at the start of the number.
I asked for the geographic number and was told they could not help me. This is madness, a university making money on recieved calls.
Trust the LSE to do that. Government organisations do it alot too. All making monry from us who pay taxes to fund them.
Does anybody know of their geographic number for the halls of residence. If not I may find that calling my friends mobile will be cheaper!!!0
