    This is a 'smack in the face' for someone like me who is firmly opposed to 0870 numbers
    :
    Official tel numbers for today:

    :: Casualty Emergency Hotline: 0870 566 344

    :: Anti-Terrorist Line: 0800 789 321

    Someone obviously knows a 'fortune' can certainly be made out of the hotline number.

    Annoyed.

    Correction.

    That Casualty Bureau number should read 0870 15 66 3 44
    Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
    There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

    The other bad thing about issuing a 0870 number as an emergency contact no, is that they dont always work when you ring them from abroad,as some smaller overseas networks dont allow access to them.

    And, as PF has also posted separately, THIS ARTICLE shows why we should all be complaining.

    They have added the above page via a link in their website footer to explain the call charges. At least they are explaining them in some way.
    Sense is not common.

    Unfortunately, they have overlooked the mobile perspective.

    From a mobile, their statement (below) is not always correct:
    Phone charges

    Calls to numbers beginning with an 0800 code are free of charge.

  • A thought occurs.....

    If I acquired a premium rate number and used it when I signed up for goods and services. If that company wanted to make a sales call to me, then they would end up paying me to sell to me wouldn't they?

    Say I filled in an internet registration form for a website, giving my phone number as 0870.... I tick the box saying yes please, call me with your offers and sell my number to your friends. I am then bombarded with sales calls earning me how much/

    Would it work?

    Sick to death of receiving cold callers (around 6pm) I have simultaneously registered my geographical number with the TPS, and acquired an 0871 number.

    I am in the process of giving banks etc my 'new' number, and as a rule of thumb in the future all companies will be given my 0871 number, whilst friends, family, charities, the NBS and individuals will continue to receive my geographical number.

    I will be paid 3p a minute 'inconvenience money' for businesses to pester me; I hope the 10p per minute at all times they pay will act as a deterrent!!

    That's a great idea Will!
    Is there a minimum contract period for an 0871 number or a subscription fee to you? How do you get one? Also, is that a separate number or does it have to replace your current number?
