Say No to 0870!

Have you noticed the 0871 number blazened by Pizza Hut in thier TV ads (eg. during the Simpsons on C4). Like 0870 isn't going to make them enough they need to use 0871??
I've noticed and I will be pointing it out in my reply to Ofcom's consultation. I think it takes advantage of consumer ignorance. Many viewers will be under 18 and bill payers may not be aware.0 -
This is my first attempt so hope I get it right.
Today I decided to make a donation to the earthquake appeal & was surprised to see that the number to dial was an 0870 number. The call was a recording & it took three & a half minutes to give my personal information (address, card details, phone number, yes or no to allowing them to contact me about future events etc.) Isn't it enough that I wish to donate without being penalized by the cost of this call? Rip off Britain again.0 -
Totally agree, noticed the same in the ad on TV.
Another case to highlight in the Ofcom responses, I think.
I wonder if all the 0870 cash is going to the relief fund - or is someone 'on the make' even from such a disaster?I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -

Absolutely agree. I came in here to post about this myself because I could'nt believe that the phone number advertised after the ITV news was an 0870, but of course others had noticed it too.
Bloody rip-off Britain. >:('Puritanism: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy'.

Yes but if the share of the revenue is going to the appeal too, then it matters not I guess.0

The saynoto0870.com site seems to have been down for hours - I know there is an association between this board and that site - are you all right over there dear boy, or should we call send up the distress flares?0

Does anyone know if the revenue is going to the appeal?'Puritanism: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy'.

I think that this may be the worst example of 0870 yet !
If you had to phone the GP out of hours , a recorded message came on giving the number of the local locum / centre dealing with emergencies that night .
This is now changing to an 0870 number , with the health authorities claiming how much better the service will be and how the local surgeries will receive a cut of the revenue being made .
However , will people now be put off dialing these numbers knowing that they are being charged more for them ? Is this really better for the patients ?
Not sure if this confined to my local authority or just within Wales or countrywide . Has anyone else checked with their local health board ?

With regard to the Tsunami appeal and the 0870 number - I cannot believe the nerve of some people.
Complaining about a few measly pence to donate money to millions of desperate people.
This disaster should have struck the UK and wiped some of the thoughtless morons out. 120,000 people dead who compared to most of the world had little.
Yet the UK has people moaning about the cost of a phone call. I am in utter disbelief.
If you send a cheque, you need to put a stamp on the envelope. That's 28p or 20p. If you donate online you have to switch your computer on which uses electricity.
Get a grip on reality complainers. We live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We are alive unlike many others.0
