Just to put your mind at rest a little, if it was too bad I can't imagine you being allowed to open a saving account - I know people that have been declined on 'fraud' grounds (incorrectly, they spelt their name wrong!)

It is strange that you couldn't get a cash account though - when you say credit problems, how long ago? If it's more than a few years then people normally start being accepted for basic accounts. Is there anything from these past issues hanging over? (e.g. accounts that are still showing active but in default each month or something like that?)

Yes I do have some accounts in default still. I had a loan & credit card 7 years ago for my ex when in a previous relationship and these never got paid. I did wonder if NatWest had put something against my name I wouldn't be allowed to even open a savings account but then again I wonder why I can't even have a basic account.

it said no and gave her 2 codes which she went to check and came back and said no its because of some things against my nameand she said it also said no to cash card account

I've checked my credit file and there's nothing in the CIFAS part.

Would they let me open a Saver account if there was something next to my name other than bad credit history?
    .

Odd that it won't let you open a basic acc.... That would say to me there is something on a report showing.

Not everything banks report will show on Cifas at a guess... Or that becomes tipping off.
But they will share info between themselves.

They did offer me a saver account though so surely there can't be anything untoward like that on my report?

It's annoying me now more than anything as I've done nothing wrong yet I'm being treated like this. I appreciate they are duty bound to ensure money laundering isn't taking place but almost 2 weeks and still nothing is ridiculous. I'd prefer if the police knocked on my door and said I've been money laundering because at least I'd know what I'm supposed to have done, being in limbo just isn't fair!!

I have just spoken to the manager of NatWest. ... he has no further information to I've me other than if I would like to make a complaint to why I have no access to my account.
Did you make an official complaint as your bank manager suggested?

No but I am going to today. I'm not sure what that will achieve though but will give it a try.

Seems to me they suspect you of money laundering. However you know you are completely innocent of their suspicions and my advise is sit back and let events unfold.

Also I know my time with Lloyds bank they did not like a customer using a personal account for business transactions.

It's because of the customers like you and the OP banks get used to get away with arrogant misbehaving like in this case.

My friend I have never let a bank get anyway with anything and the last bank that tried cost them dearly.

If that were the problem here, it wouldn't justify the bank freezing the account, they'd just give notice of closing it.
