There are also other options as to why the account has been blocked. But the OP does not seem to have explored these routes. Or at least never posted that they have.
.
What are the other options as to why the account could have been blocked?
You also mentioned that the bank would need to speak to Paypal. Well my PayPal account still has full access as do my eBay account.0 -

Yes, sorry. I don't think it's that because of the way the manager is being. He's very careful as to what he says. Without trying to read to much into what he's said and hang on any words, he said today that "NatWest will be in touch shortly"....whatever that means!0 -
I'll defer to your knowledge in so far as those are the rules, but does anybody seriously think these rules are sensible? A fraudster would know the instant their account was frozen what was going on so the idea of a "tip-off" would be moot. It's only innocent people who are inconvenienced and stressed (for want of stronger words) when they are left without finances for an unlimited period of time. A person would never be turfed out of their house without being told of allegations against them, or have their car confiscated, or have their travel restricted (at least one of those would be outright illegal, possibly all of them), so why does it happen with banking?
Thank you for your comment.
The so-called rules are wrong IMO. I've not slept properly for 2 weeks and feel sick constantly with worry. I understand the laws and processes they have to go through but 2 weeks is a ridiculous length of time to carry on for!
Fingers crossed it will be sorted soon as I'm currently without a bank account and unable to pay direct debits for a mortgage, life insurance, private health cover etc etc.0 -
I don't want to waste my time. You show me where it says that they can lock an account because of some suspicion and then take as mach time as they want to 'investigate' whether the suspicion was justified or not while keeping the customer in ignorance.
That's what meer53 implied.
What is the point in them showing you anything when you refuse to waste your time by reading? It is clear you are ignorant of MLRs and do not know about the powers of the HMRC and obligations of the bank. But why you would want to continue to bang your drum of ignorance while refusing to educate yourself I have no idea. There is nowt so queer as folk.No debts. No credit cards. No store cards. No mortgage. No CCJs. High credit rating intact. Living frugally. Want to start business soon. Trying to keep head above water; while standing on own feet; staying within the law; and not falling into debt. Looking to raise income, who isn't?0 -

Did HMRC send you any correspondence at all before this all happened? No debts. No credit cards. No store cards. No mortgage. No CCJs. High credit rating intact. Living frugally. So don't [post on a open forum then.It takes two days to fly to USA and back, but you don't need to fly anywhere to 'deal' with PP and 'other parties'. Of course, the 'investigators' can use a snail mail instead of a phone or e-mail. This is what I call arrogance and dragging their feet.
You clearly have no idea at all. You think that once they are told they will be able to reply straight away.....
They then need to look at the account, find where ALL transactions were from/too.
There are not people just sat there waiting to wprk these. They will be worked in turn. And what does this prove? That every time I hear 'DPA' and 'law' on the other side of the line it always really is the case? In 90% of cases they just repeat the words that they were taught to use to fob a customer off.
OP has been given other options to look into as to why account may be blocked and not done anything.
They are just sitting back and waiting... Not getting proactive.
I hear retailer staff banding DPA to people. Yet to hear anyone at a bank say that to a customer.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

No, I haven't received anything from them at all.0 -
In my former job I dealt with suspected fraud cases at the "request" of HMRC (VAT probs) and the police, and believe me they go through everything with a fine toothcomb.
I'm not suggesting your account is harbouring any type of fraud, just saying it does take time.
The other thing is - do you have a foreign surname that might be the same/similar to one on a "wanted" list re money laundering, fraud or terrorism ?
On the other hand there is always the chance that your account was blocked by mistake and nobody at the bank is dealing with it. Do you have a contact who has confirmed they are looking at the account ?0 -

My comment was addressed to meer53 only, who was hiding behind "obeying the law" without quoting any relevant part of the law. And? Your posts don't offer any constructive advice to the OP. As there are people replying who have experience in this field, why not leave them to it ? I offer advice based on my experience, if you don't like it please fell free to ignore it.
There is nothing the OP can do to speed up this investigation.0
