Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! Part 3

  • Hi all I wonder if I could join?

I've been on the MSE forums a while under another name but due to some of my friends on here also I am under a new name at the moment as my boyfriend and I only found out yesterday that we were going to have a baby! It was a little bit of a shock - I've got stage 4 Endometriosis and I was told two months ago by my consultant that the chances of me having a baby were fairly slim. So we weren't 'trying' for a baby but we weren't not trying either. I've only been off menopausal injections for two months so my boyfriend and I must make a super fertile match!

Ironically though even though we are both thrilled (though not sure it's really sunk in yet) the timing could not be worse. We are living at my boyfriend's parents at the moment saving for a mortgage and I dont know if we will have enough to buy, before the baby comes. Also I have no idea how far along I am - I did the clearblue conception indicator yesterday and it said 3+ so I think i could be anywhere from 3 weeks to 8 weeks! The worst thing is our very best friends are due to get married in Poland in June which will be smack bang around the time I am due to pop - we have already booked the trip and my boyfriend is the best man. So I am feeling rather awful about this but what can you do?! I am sure they will understand.

Just to put the cherry on the cake on Saturday we got back from an all inclusive two week break in Spain where I spent pretty much the whole time drinking, smoking (usually don't - I quit a year ago - apart from when we go on holiday), using the spa/sauna/steam room and spending two days in a theme park going on all the roller coasters. So I am really worried that I've damaged the baby in some way!

What I really wanted to know though and sorry for such a lengthy post, is what we do now? We have not told a soul so I can't even ask my best friend who has a 6 month old, for advice. I am going to my doctors after work to transfer there from my old address and I will try and get an appointment but what happens at it? Will they do another test or a scan? Will they be able to tell me how far along I am without me knowing when my last period was?

Thanks all. I am panicking a bit as you can tell! xx

katy - hope that everything goes well today.... enjoy seeing your little one :)

marie - welcome  and congrats. You certainly have your hands full. I'm sure this one will fit right in with your existing family :) and at least if it's a girl, it will be cheaper seeing as you already have everything ;)

faith - I know it's hard when you know that the scan is coming. Distraction is the best idea :) I'm wishing you luck now for Wednesday. I might be back in before then, but wanted to wish you luck all the same..... :)

becs - 2 naps? Sounds like heaven :D How do I squeeze them in at work?? :rotfl:

mysecretalias - congrats to you. There's no perfect time, but everything will fall into place. I know you must be worried and hopefully the gp will help. You need to really, really push him for a scan. Emphasise that you have no idea how far along you are and your holiday stuff etc. He won't be keen so maybe a few tears would help ;). You also have the option of booking a private scan on your own. They cost anywhere from about £70 - £120 depending on where you live and can usually get you in within only a few days. They'll be able to estimate how far along you are, confirm if the heart is beating (if it's obviously beyond a week where this would normally kick in as it's doesn't start til about 6 weeks, I think). It might be worth doing this. I've had a private scan myself simply for re-assurance. It can really help you feel more at ease and stress is not ideal for you or your little one. Hope that helps, but feel free to ask more advice - there'e plenty of ladies here who might have been through a similar experience :)

Twigpig Hello! I'm well thanks - slowly adjusting to being back in the UK and getting my head round the endless list of things we have to do. My complete emotional inability to cope with the move back makes much more sense now we know I am pregnant! No new dog - we've gone straight back to working twelve hour shifts so it would be really unfair to get a dog now. Once I give up work though.... :D

Thanks for the welcome ladies. It's slowly sinking in - the tiredness and (as of today) nausea is making me feel like something is actually happening in there.

  • Hi Twigpig - thanks so much for your congrats and words of reassurance. I am just trying not to get excited yet in case there's anything wrong which will break my heart. Tonight when I go to my doctors and hopefully get an appointment I will plead for a scan - do they do this at the doctors or do you have to go to the hospital for this?

I'm really grateful there's something like this forum on here because I feel a bit lost without my best friend who I share everything with and have never kept a secret from in ten years of friendship but my other half has sworn me to secrecy even from her!

    Welcome mysecretalias!

I was the worst yet yesterday. I don't think I have ever felt sick and been heavingand eating a bag of crisps at the same time. OH cooked my dinner as I ccouldn't go near the kitchen. I have weeks of this I think.

    Good luck Faith2009uk!

    Goodluck Faith2009uk x

Poor you SamToby.....I did have a moment of sickness yesterday but think it was just because I was hungry! Ive just got a grotty cold to contend with.
The Midwife phoned me yesterday! Seeing her Friday for booking in - worried now as last time I saw her and then mc 2 days later. I know that's irrational. Hoping she can calm my fears x

Just popping back in to see how everyone is doing and say good luck to faith2009uk :)

Sorry to hear some are feeling crap - have those with nausea tried tonic water? My aunt swears its the only thing that killed the weird taste for her. Worth a go I guess?

    Morning!

I've been absent for a while as we were on holiday ... Not the best time as DH wanted to go to western highlands promising me there would be lots to do with an 18mth old, there wasn't. In addition Frog decided she was going on food and sleep strike so has fallen back into waking in the night for food as she wouldn't eat in the day :( I will be starting controlled crying again at the weekend :o oh joy!!

On the other hand I am now 10+5 which is about 1/4 of the way there :D. I've managed to get my BIL to babysit Frog whilst we go off for the scan, we don't have anyone else locally to ask except the group of NCT ladies from the first time around or my Mum but we'd be saying thank you for months for that one :(

    Morning all!!

Hope everyone is feeling well today. So sorry your feeling so terrible Samtoby. My nausea seems to be decreasing and I only feel a little bit sick in the evening. Really not feeling all that bad at the moment, which is a little bit worrying. Hope everything is ok. Still got two weeks to go until I see the midwife and book for a scan. Seems like forever. Ill be 9 weeks at that point.

Really fancy a holiday before the baby arrives but just not sure where. Want it to be a do nothing but relax type hioliday. Just not sure I fancy flying anywhere or driving for a long time midway through my second trimester. Is anyone else going on holiday further into their pregnancy?

    Happy Tuesday everyone xx

Good luck for your scan Faith2009uk - bring back a piccie for us all!

Sophiasmum - try not to worry, hopefully the midwife can give you some reassurance and I am sure that stastically the odds are hugely in your favour this time round.

Samtoby - sorry you feel so awful. I felt really nauseous for the first time yesterday but wasn't actually sick so can understand you must feel dreadful with it going on constantly.

Welcome kalama, marie and mysecretalias - it's lovely to see so many BFPs this month!
