28 October. First midwife appt 18 March

Not quite so sunny in the Alps today. One of the group fell and broke his collar bone yesterday :( very painful for him and it means my quiet time is interrupted! He may need surgery so it's pretty bad.

I suppose it is a reminder of why the risk of skiing isn't worth it whilst pg - I'm sure he's not pg.

Stuck to 'no vodka' and tonic last night. I am pleased we told the couple as it means she could pour my drink or cause a distraction. It would have been very difficult otherwise.

7 weeks today for me. Nothing major in the sickness department. A bit of nausea but it comes and goes through the day. Just having small snacks to keep it at bay.

Sorry for the delayed update, a chaotic few days!

On the afternoon of getting the positive she appeared to have caught a bug which had been going round at work (she's a nurse) and was suffering quite badly. Unfortunately that played havoc with her blood sugar levels which isn't ideal being Type 1. She's been told it must stay below 7 which is rather difficult when working shifts!

She had her regular diabetes appointment last week and the nurse who deals with diabetic pregnancies was there. She predicted 10th November, but this may change come her first antenatal appointment which is next week (18th)! Think we are at about 5 weeks as of Saturday :)

Scary stuff. We're still in shock.

When should she hear about the 12 week scan? She went to the GP last Thursday but didn't see her usual doctor and the replacement woman was awful, scribbling a few notes and not entering anything on the system and then saying how common miscarriages were and complications due to diabetes. Didn't impress the OH one bit.

EDD: 6th October 12 weeks scan 27th March Booking in tomorrow :)

I have already had two scans, one for my gallbladder and they checked to see if I was actually pregnant (I was :D ) and the other an official one at 8 weeks to make sure there is only one (there is :o )

Throwing up constantly at the moment and have so far lost 1st 3lb :o I think this is because of my gallbladder rather than pregnancy. Never thrown up during pregnancy (apart from once or twice) plus I can feel my gallbladder convulsing :(

No surgeon with touch me so it is just a case of managing with pain relief and having surgery after s/he is born.

GPs can be awful, when I went for my 6 week after labour check up the GP kept asking about my surviving twin. I had to tell her 3 times that they had both died. I am now very choosy about who i see.

With regards to getting the scan appointment through my first one came through the post when I was about 10 weeks with 2 weeks notice.

    Hi Retepetesir

Don't listen to the GP. The scary stuff about diabetes only applies when it's not carefully controlled during pregnancy. Even then it is still far more likely that the baby will be ok than not, even with a really high blood sugar at conception there is like a 10% chance of an adverse outcome which means 90% will be ok. I conceivd my son with uncontrolled blood sugars (he was unplanned) which meant a very worrying time during the pregnancy but he was fine, as soon as I found out I was pregnant I got striaght on it and what matters most regards miscarriage/birth defects is her blood sugar control during the embryonic period (days 17-53 after fertilisation) which luckily means the first couple of weeks when she didn't know she was pregnant don't count so much.

I got my 12 week scan appointment the minute I phoned the hospital - maybe they will book this for her at the antenatal appointment. Glad she is seeing antenatal so soon.

I've also been told to keep things below 7, basically this will mean overinjecting all the time and trying to catch the hypos before they happen, not fun but i'd rather go hypo ten times per day than my baby have a high blood sugar one time. Remember the hypos don't really harm the baby as they're over so fast - it's the highs that count and even the odd one of those won't do too much harm, it's persistent highs that matter. If your wife knows how to do a correction dose she can catch and deal with any highs as soon as they happen.

Regards work, if her heatlh is at risk she can ask them to make changes, which they must do if she is pregnant. I drive a lot in my job, and have told my boss my situation, he has been very helpful and said that if it gets to a point where I can no longer drive due to the hypos, then theyll adjust my role.

If you want any more info, just PM me. Having been through it in one pregnancy and now back for more I hope I can help!

Thanks. I've basically said to ignore that GP and my OH has as she knew more than the doctor! 'Do you test your blood sugar each day?', erm yes of course!!

This GP then said it was the diabetes team which should book all of the scans and put it on the system, which was completely false. We've ignored her!

Thank you :). Her control used to be appalling (teenager with diabetes isn't always a good thing!) but she's slowly got this under control over the years. Unfortunately she had a bad couple of weeks a few weeks back but this would be right at the start so hopefully not too much of a problem. Not a lot she can do about it now anyway so I've already said there's no point worrying about it now. She's been well controlled the last week (apart from the illness overnight) which would just be starting the embryonic stage.

Since she's known she is pregnant she's already changed her eating habits which is great. She's out milk chocolate which was a treat but did cause her readings to spike and has the occasional square of dark.

She's getting worried when her readings creep up to 8.5 at work but I really don't think that's bad considering the nature of her job as a nurse and she quickly boluses a small amount to get it back down again.

Certainly having lots more hypo's which is interesting! Bit scary when I'm not around as I know they are now more common so hopefully she stays aware of them.

She had downloaded the local Trust's diabetic pregnancy schedule which suggests an early scan but was told this won't be happening so I guess 12 weeks it is.

She has told work already due to the diabetes and wanting to rest her blood sugar regularly. Most of the other nurses and staff now know and are already helping her out which is great, even if it is still very early! :j

I need to get my !!!! in gear and finish this DIY :rotfl::eek:
