I already see him once every couple of weeks, but it is getting him away from my sister so that we can chat which is the problem. Once I get over my present bout of flu (I pick up chest infections very easily), and the weather picks up, then it should be a lot easier. There are a few places which I could take him to for the day, which would fit in OK with my restraints (be very cheap and local), and most importantly would interest him - history, military, nature.
My fear is that my sister would like to tag along and ruin it, by turning it into a trip to the local retail outlet.
Still, I will have to face that battle if and when it happens.0 -
Then inform your sister that you and your father want to spend some time together. How hard can this be?0

You have no idea, because you do not know the person concerned, and do not realise the extent to which she lacks social skills, or when it is time to keep your mouth shut (her not you) and let people alone.0 -

I don't know your sister so have no idea, but I do know how to get a point across to a person and say what I need to say. If she wants to divert your history trip to the shopping centre, then try this:
"Thanks for the suggestion, but Dad and I have made plans"
Don't allow your sister to make your decisions for you. You're not a child, you're a grown man who has a mind and is quite capable of making decisions and declining an alternative suggestion.0 -

It isn't me I am worried about, it is my dad, in the event that he is offered an ultimatum by my sister, or is just afraid to go against her.
Ah well, I suppose that it is time that I had a blazing row with her face to face.0 -

I thunk that may be counter productive. There are other ways to skin a cat and they are often more effective. Go on a charm offensive, use the ideas above, even offer to drop her off at the shops en route wherever you and your dad are going. Pre empt her, put her off guard by your niceness.0 -
You say your sister works as scared - why not turn up when you know she will be at work and take your dad out for surprise outing - leaving a note obviously!0
