council told me quite clearly he had no permission to run a business from his adress!!
if you lot think this is okay for him to defraud tax and revenue i am quite shocked; your quite happy to sit there and moan about people claiming benefits they are not entitled to!!
Well, report him again, as far as the council know he has stopped doing it after their letter, they won't know any different unless you tell them.
Do you know this for a fact? Is he claiming benefits? Again if you don't report it to the relevant authorities they won't know.
Why if he has been doing it for 24 years has it only recently became an issue?0 -

I don't think anyone is condoning an illegal business, it's just that some of us do like a bit of proof before reaching for the pitchforks and torches.
...... and you are not coming across as a particularly nice neighbour in this thread0 -
ok I know nothing about tax and the sort but something intresting I can say is this. My neighbours a few doors way are having the same trouble. Sadly our street is full of problem neighbours. The council told my mate that it is illegal to work on any car/bus/motorbike on the road/pavement. You can do as you wish on your own property as we all are mortgaged round here. But you cannot set a foot on the pavement or road to do so. Just food for thoughtMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

He bought his house and has lived there for 24 years.
For 24 of those years, he's been running a business from their illegally; i.e. he does not have planning permission from the Council to do this.
He is doing car servicing by the side of the road and is a bloody nuisance.
He does this cash in hand so I doubt it he has declared it to tax, or benefits.
The fact is would he be allowed to do this; I need to apply to the Land Registry to check and see what it says on his title deed!!
If he has broken anything on his title deed what can I do about it!!??
You have my full sympathy. Report the git - trading standards, council, police, HMRC, etc. Report him to death. Lowlifes like him shouldn't be allowed to ruin a residential area.0 -

He would never get permission for doing roadside repairs.
You can contact your council / councillors via a brand new made up email and then it can't be tied to you ever.
He might guess its you but deny it.0 -

You can mend your own. But not anyone elses as a trade. Get them to define trade as in other cars per year0 -
My neighbour does this, I think the most cars on the small street with a run of four houses was something like fifteen.
And I am very grateful. He takes in parcels for me, he will lend a hand in an emergency, there is no petty theft or vandalism because there is always someone around and he really does charge mates rates for us.
He keeps an eye out as there is no off the street parking and will keep a car being repaired in our spot until five minutes before OH is due home to deter a known nuisance, is very friendly and always good for a cup of gossip.
He keeps muttering about getting a garage or lock up, and I am dreading it. There are times when I do feel more comfortable knowing that there is a man around if I should feel uncomfortable with salesman, etc.
I believe someone did report him for benefit fraud, but he wasn't claiming any.
I think my neighbour is lovely and if he wanted to move I would try and persuade him against it!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
