Candlewax, re bottles - I've always made up a 24-hour supply in one go. I boil water, leave it for 20-30 minutes depending on volume, then make up the bottles and cool them down quickly in a tub of cold water & ice cubes. Store at back of fridge and pour out anything not used within 24 hours. I've been doing this since around 8 weeks.

    Morning all :)

    My day off today :j

Hope everyone is well. Our sleeping has improved lots in the last few days...dont want to jinx it though so Ill shut up! How is your LO at nights now nutella?

We are meeting a friend and her new baby later in starbucks. She was born on Aidens bday so exactly a year younger. Im thinking its his potential future gf :p

    xx

My LO has a little male friend at nursery - he's 3 weeks older than her and they follow each other around everywhere - very cute :) Your friend is brave - I didn't leave the house until LO was about 3 weeks old!

Sleep is non-existent at the moment :( We had a couple of better nights, but she's now teething and last night was horrible. She just cried and cried and the only sleep she did have was whilst we were holding her. If Nurofen and cuddles don't work, then I don't know what will... I had less than 3 hours sleep and feel like death. It's going to be a fun day at work :( Glad things have improved for you though - long may it continue! Thanks for the activity cube info (thanks to Mozzy too!) - might get one for her birthday.

Have a good day all x

He's exclusively breastfed at the moment but we're looking to introduce the odd bottle using expressed breast milk early next week :) I did think it was odd having been encouraged that exclusively breastfed babies don't need water or anything else.

It's definitely runny when he poos, quite explosive at times too :) Perhaps colic is the more likely issue, I know from my dad that I suffered terribly with it as a LO. Noone had explained they can go days without pooing, everyone (HV, bfs etc) seemed to expect a good few poos a day when they ask about his nappies but now it seems to be turning out that missing a day is normal!

Thankyou everyone for being so helpful :) I love this place!
Runny poos aren't constipation - constipation is when they are hard and that makes them difficult to pass. My eldest did loads of poos every day (not sure when it changed - possibly once she started eating solids) whereas this one can do five in a day or go five days between poos (both exclusively breastfed).

His poo sounds fine. There's a huge variation in what constitutes normal frequency for breastfed babies. Some go every few days, some go after every feed. Provided the poo's soft (in fact it will probably be runny) he won't feel any pain when he passes them and he won't be constipated.

He might have colic, but then again he might just be going through the normal windy, unsettled-in-the-evening phase that pretty much all babies go through. By all means, try some things that might alleviate it but I reckon it will just sort itself out in time. Freddie was like this for a while. I just used to offer him the boob more in the evening - they like to suck when they've got sore tums. Plus it might actually be hunger making him unsettled.

Mrs_B - we had this around 4-8 weeks, so much so we ended up getting checked at the out of hours (long story but HV planted a seed of doubt about potential bowel problem  - turned out to be wind). We noticed that if little miss hasn't had a poo for 24 hours or more, she starts sicking up more of her feeds than just a normal posset. I was sure she had reflux but the baby Gaviscon made no difference, the key was if she hadn't pooed she threw up more. I thought she was constipated too even though she was exclusively breastfed anyway long story short, the doctor said she shouldnt be constipated if breast fed but if I was concerned about her reduced volume of fluids from throwing up the milk then I could give her a bit of cooled boiled water. It didn't help, she just threw that up too but he said a small amount of water won't harm the baby, obviously a 6oz bottle might upset their feeding patterns but not a small amount. Anyway, she got into this routine which continued until we started on a bottle of formula at night time. Now.......omg the poos don't stop!

I think a few poos a day is normal at the start but once feeding is established missing up to about 5 days is considered normal for BF babies (according to my baby book - far more help than the HV!)

Thanks for the good wishes about the darned milk blister (more info here for those who asked what it was: http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/)

    Ok, just a quickie.

we were talking about explosive poo nappies. I have used huggies and they leak wee, Pampers and they leak poo, yesterday i went to the new asda in town and bought the little angels nappies- yes, maybe cos im a marketing sucker saw the mother and baby prize for product of the year either 2012 or 2013 and decided to give them a try tho i like pampers.
J has done so far 3 poos, the explosive ones and these nappies did not leak any of it,3 times checked her clothes and they are perfectly fine. they may not be fancy, thin like pampers but they do their job well.
I bought the size 1 as i use Pampers newborn size 1. My fav Pampers nappies are the baby dry so can not wait to compare them in the future.

Morocha - I am using the asda little angel nappies at the moment and they are great! I have always been a pampers fan but saw the little angels in offer and thought it was worth a try. I'd say, for me, they are as good as pampers.

Sunshine - have a nice time with your friend and baby. :D

Im off into town to get birthday cards for Noah and DP then to meet a friend for coffee too. :) kids have gone to school dressed in red today for comic relief, it was so cold this morning Noah had his own little red nose! ;)

Afternoon everyone, while you are all talking about poo's can I please ask a quick question? For those of you on solids, how were babies at the beginning of weaning? We have started the girls on purees, just baby porridge and some mushed banana, but they are really struggling with poos.

They are both screaming in pain and the poos are quite putty-like. I've tried giving water(not that they drink much cos they don't like it). Whoever suggested OJ, I will have to give that a try thanks.

Anyway is this normal? Anything else I can do to help them? We do the cycling legs etc already and they take infacol. Tia

Fluff the King book is "the wind through the keyhole". It was released last year and is a Dark Tower story - nearly wet myself in excitement when I saw that on the front!!! In the foreword, he says it goes after Wizard and Glass and before Wolves of the Calla - so it's kind of DT 4.5. Are you a Dark Tower fan? I really hope you say yes, I love them!

Ref formula and making with hot water - no the formula itself is often fine, but as with any manufacturing process there is always a risk of contamination - whether from the people involved, from the machine, or from the packaging. There have been several recalls of formula over the years due to contamination - bacteria, beetle larvae, metal, plastic etc. That is why, whether you make in advance or not, it is very important to use hot enough water.

Reuben has definitely dropped his third nap of the day (even though it was only half an hour). We have struggled (or I have anyway!) to adjust to a 2 naps routine, but think we are just about getting there.

I'm off to meet a friend in a few hours, haven't seen her since I was pregnant, looking forward to having a good catchup and a pub dinner :)
