    Hi all!
MrsHarworth (and any other around Manchester), how is next week for you? Savage and I are thinking about meeting on Tuesday, would that day be ok with you? Any ideas on where to meet? So far, we have thought about Piccadilly Gardens, MediaCityUK / Salford Quays, The Trafford Centre or Manchester Museum, all with either gardens or play areas for little ones.

poor little thing, Delain. I hope she is better now, mine did the same last week, luckily the chair didn't fall on her but the shock of "what might have happen if" still lingered for a few days!

I am back at looking at sofa beds or the IKEA Hemnes daybed with drawers. DH wants a sofa bed, but it will probably be me who sleeps there often, once lo is in her own room... so I want a comfy bed! Also, the Ikea Hemnes takes European mattresses (80 x 200cm), not sure how the GB bedding will fit then... has anyone got this bed, or a sofa bed they could recommend for more than just occasional use? (I tried to look back and see the replies from last time I asked... but I cannot find them!)

Marta, we have two IKEA beds (but not from the Hemnes range), one double and one king size, and normal sheets fit fine. And both beds are good quality, including the drawers on the one that has those. A standard UK single bed is 90 x 190cm, so a UK sized fitted sheet should be OK. But unless you already have single sheets that you'd want to use, you could always buy a couple from IKEA if you're concerned (this is obviously what they're hoping you'll do!) - we've got some from there and they're decent quality. In my experience, what will determine whether or not the Hemnes daybed is any good is not going to be the bed itself, it'll be the mattress you choose. And for that it's worth spending a little bit more to get one that's comfortable. Go to IKEA and try out their mattresses - lie down on as many as you can muster, then buy your favourite :) But they also do a 90-day 'sleep guarantee' (I think it's 90...) on mattresses - allowing you to return it if, after sleeping on it, you're not happy.

Thanks for that, Nutella. I am just torn on that, I cannot make my mind up. On the one hand, I think the Ikea Hemnes bed might be comfier than a sofa, and provide storage. On the other hand, being so big it might make the room small, and once we transform her cot into a bed, it might look odd too. A sofa might always look ok there, and it will probably take less room; however, the mattresses are often ridiculously thin... although maybe a topper would do the trick? I have been going from one side to the other for weeks, and I still cannot decide on my own without testing either... :(

Marta - realistically, how often would you actually sleep there? If it's only going to be occasionally when she's unwell etc. like you mentioned before, then maybe a sofa is the way to go - or even just a foldable camping bed? But thinking longer term, at some point she'll outgrow the cot and need a single bed - maybe that could be the Hemnes daybed? So you buy it now, use it yourself as and when (it matters less if the room's a bit crowded when she's so small), then when she's older you get rid of the cot and leave the daybed in there?.... Sorry I'm probably not being very helpful here - I can totally see your dilemma and the pros and cons! My LO has a small room too, and when she's older and outgrows the cot bed, we'll probably get something like this to maximise space.
  • What phone do you have? Coz the iPhone has a special child's lock (not iphone 3 though) where you press the main button 3 times, and they will be locked into the app and can't get out of it unless they know your 4 number passcode, so very unlikely to get out of it.

Highchair - don't know how old your LO is so this may be inappropriate but when my boy did this about 18 months or so, we moved him out of the highchair and into a normal seat (with a booster) and now he behaves because he feels like a big boy.

It's a Nokia. I think what happens is when the phone goes to sleep, if the battery alert goes off the screen lights up... then he can unlock the screen into the main phone. If I turned off battery alerts, he doesn't know which button to press to wake it. He likes to switch between videos and change programs all the time, think he'd be upset to be locked into an app. :D

He's about 20 months, but if he's not that keen on the dinner, I think he'd just get up and wander off. :D Maybe if it was one I could strap him into I guess? I did use a Totseat on holiday earlier in the year, he managed to stand up in that!
  • I've got an Ergo, I really like it, and it's easy to use, but I do feel it's not quite the right size for me, I feel like it could do with tightening up a teeny bit more. So worth trying if you can to see how it fits you. I like that it does a hip carry as well as a back one.

MrsHarworth, I have a Stokke carrier, it's also designed to keep the hips in "frog position". I find it very comfy and you can use it until your lo is three or so, as it has an attachment for the back. You can try it on in most shops, Mothercare and Mama's and Papa's usually have them.

Nutella, realistically... when my lo is ill and maybe when my DH gets his sinuses problems, which is quite often :( My lo's cot is a cotbed, so it will convert to bed eventually. I want a second baby, so when we eventually go into having to buy something else to move her out of the toddler bed, we might go into bunk beds or cabins like you posted. I probably would use the bed for me when she is poorly and my DH cannot breath silently, for guests when they come (once or twice a year), and for my lo to eventually jump around. DH says sofa bed is better, as we can always put it in the living room and get rid of one of the current ones, which were in the flat when we bought it. A part of me thinks that makes more sense, but I like the look of the daybed and the drawers could be useful.

I'd agree with that probably, I'm coveting a mixer, have for a few years now as I do a fair bit of baking, but I still do it all by hand :o I really should treat myself...

He's got one of those kitchenaid artisan mixers. I've even seen him stroking it when he thinks no one's looking.
