I have the Panasonic SD-2502, which is like 2501 but in silver. My hubby is a bit OCD and didn't want a white appliance when everything else was silver or black. It's brilliant, but it's big, see dimensions. I read a lot of customer reviews for breadmakers, and the Panasonic seemed to be fool-proof, which I needed! Other brands were hit and miss, and some people who bought another brand ended up either buying the Panasonic or stopping making bread altogether. If you buy a breadmaker, a book I recommend is "The ultimate bread machine cookbook" by Shapter: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Bread-Machine-Cookbook/dp/0754821021/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1379580701&sr=1-1&keywords=ultimate+bread+machine+book . The breadmaker has most common recipes with the instructions, but if you want to try more things and see what else can be done, this book has pretty much everything. Try the French Bread recipe, crusty outside and soft inside. Yummy!!!Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Nutella, I hand bake my bread, and have been told by a few people that machine baked loaves never taste as good but having never had one I can't confirm thatThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Must admit I've heard the same. Although I am tempted because apparently a breadmaker can turn out a relatively decent (ie edible) loaf of gluten free bread whereas I can't. At all.
Just booked the car in for an mot next week. Hate dealing with mechanics, I know absolutely nothing about cars and feel so far out of my depthNew garage too so hope they take pity on me and don't try and pull a fast one.

I've been looking at baby tablets, wondering whether to ask for one for Xmas. He'll sit with my phone for ages watching videos, and can now open the iPlayer, select CBeebies and start programs! Luckily my phone has a kids corner, but he's already got out of it once.
Highchairs....
My horror just won't behave in his any more. With the tray on he would rock against it till the chair walked across the floor! If I take the tray off and pull him up to the table, he uses his feet to try and push either himself or the table over. If I then move him out of reach, he leans right over the edge to look at the floor. Can't take my eye off him for a second! Any ideas?
What phone do you have? Coz the iPhone has a special child's lock (not iphone 3 though) where you press the main button 3 times, and they will be locked into the app and can't get out of it unless they know your 4 number passcode, so very unlikely to get out of it.
Highchair - don't know how old your LO is so this may be inappropriate but when my boy did this about 18 months or so, we moved him out of the highchair and into a normal seat (with a booster) and now he behaves because he feels like a big boy.

My mother bakes using a machine and my brother bakes by hand. I think the best results are my brother's but only once he bought a really good mixer with a dough hook. Mixing by hand gave uneven results. I think mix with a machine, bit of kneading, proof, shape, re-proof by hand is the best combo."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Watching the bake off on tv has made me want to bake and make bread, however I used to love making casseroles and stews before I had the baby, I haven't found time to ever chuck a casserole together since!
Poor time management I say haha!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -

I'd agree with that probably, I'm coveting a mixer, have for a few years now as I do a fair bit of baking, but I still do it all by handI really should treat myself...

OH got a basic kenwood mixer as his birthday present this year and it's great for bread dough. To be fair I use it mainly for making pizza dough as we are trying to cut right down on artificial additives and sugar.
I enjoy baking but don't seem to have much time these days! Squeak has her 15 hours nursery now she's three so we're in and out like a fiddlers elbow for the next 2 years as she goes to school next autumn just in time for little miss to start 15 hoursIt takes about an hour to get there and back from home at the moment, although I hear rumours of an increased bus service (25 min walk each way)
We have been toilet training Squeak and that has been it's own nightmare... She finally decided that she wanted to use the toilet. Great, thinks everyone. I had forgotten the incredible frustration of getting everybody dressed and ready and just opening the front door to hear 'Mummy I need a weeeee'
And little miss managed to hurt herself today, she was trying to pull a dining chair out from the table and pulled it over on herselfThey are quite heavy chairs too so she got a hell of a whack
I was doing washing at the time and it was one of those moments where you see it coming and you just aren't fast enough
Hope everyone is OK and doing well. Sorry for epic post!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Oooh all this talk of homemade bread makes me want to give it a go. I've a Kenwood (the cheapest model!) with a dough hook, so think it could be something I could rustle up. Busy making my nephew's Shrek birthday cake for this weekend at the moment, so will have to leave it until next week.
Sorry to hear about LO's accident Delain, hate it when you can just see it happening, but can't get there quick enough.
Looking like some sunshine coming back

Evening all
Hope everyone's well. Good day here - LO and I went to our local aquarium and also had lunch there, and prior to that our holiday visas turned up
Thanks for all your bread making comments and opinions! I'm pretty sure handmade + mixer would be my number 1 choice, but I think I need to be realistic about this: I've baked bread ONCE in the past six years despite good intentions. It's just not happeningSo if it's a choice between shop-bought bread and bread maker bread (complete with that amazing smell of freshly baked bread), then I think the latter would win. My mum does a lot of baking, and loves her Kenwood mixer though - Gilly, I think you should definitely treat yourself
Katie, there is such a thing as edible glutenfree bread? :rotfl:
Marta, we're OCD here too (but in our case it's me as well as OH) - I don't see a white appliance finding its way into our kitchen any time soon!
MrsH, I know what you mean re. time management - I too find time for watching the bakeoff on TV, but I never have time to actually do some baking myself. Uhm, I could just switch off the TV and spend that hour baking, but: a) I couldn't be on here at the same time, and b) watching baking requires less energy than baking!
Off to bed soon - hope everyone has a good night x0
