jannine, you can try and sell the clothes on ebay , i know i would buy them if they are in good condition.

katie, how old is your baby ?
I need to get my 6 wk old to sleep in her cot .

He's 10 months now. Had him next to a 6 day old earlier and he looked like a giant!

I'd have been fine to let him keep the dummy til he was a bit older as he only had it at night and nap times anyway, but getting up to put it back in 6 times a night was taking the p!!!! And it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I have a question, hope you can advise.

We're going to be on a plane when my LO will be just under 8 months old. Can you recommend any toys to take along with us? Preferably ones that don't make loud noises as we don't want to fall out with everyone on the plane! One of his favourite toys just now is ELC Activity Triangle but it's a bit bulky to put into hand luggage plus I read online it's good to have a new toy for them to keep them occupied.

We were already on a plane a few times with him but he was much younger and only slept. I'm worried it'll not be so easy this time.
I think Nutella is a frequent flyer lol, she will prob have lots of toy tips :) x

    No pressure then! :p

Last time I went on a plane with my LO, she was a week short of 8 months. In my experience, listed in order of entertainment value, these are the top things:

    1) The newspaper of the poor soul sitting next to you.

    2) Stuff that belongs to the airline: infant lifejacket, seat belt, plastic cups, emergency procedures, sick bag, table, window. All worthy of exploration.

    3) A walk from your seat to the toilet and back again. Pick an aisle seat and go for a wander if boredom sets in - there'll be lots of stuff and people to look at, many of whom will smile or pull funny faces (the airline staff are the worst for this!).

    4) Food. Especially stuff that takes a long time to eat, like biscotti.

    5) An old favourite toy. I think this is because everything around them is new and different, so they quite like to see something familiar.

    6) What you actually asked about: a new toy that they haven't seen before. Because babies are curious little things. Not sure what I'd suggest here as all babies are so different - but ELC have smaller versions of the activity triangle and similar things. I wouldn't worry too much about noise (although I wouldn't bring a xylophone or anything vtech...) - people sitting near you would much rather listen to a toy than a screaming baby :o You can also be creative here - the free bag of peanuts makes a good rattle, a few extra plastic cups can be stacked inside each other or on top of each other on the table, opening and closing window shutters and seat belts is fun, and if you're on a long haul flight the entertainment system will also be popular (even if it only involves pressing random buttons or playing with headphones).

You might be surprised re. the sleep thing. Once my LO has been awake for 2-3 hours at the airport, busily looking at people, lights, duty free shops and all sorts of other stuff, the combination of all these new things and the noise/movement of the plane does send her to sleep once we get into our seat. She might not stay asleep for the whole flight, but sleep she will.

Have a nice flight - and if you do find an amazing toy, I'd love to know about it! We're flying again in a couple of weeks, she'll be just over 10 months and I haven't yet figured out what to bring - although given the above, I might not buy anything new at all :o

You're joking right? Biscotti don't get eaten in this house - they get INHALED... as do pineapple fingers and satsuma bits.

What dizzi said about the biscotti, shoveled in and them screaming for more before he's even chewed it.

Something like a whole pear takes a bit of work, but is v messy

News from last night: with the exception of a bit of a wobble between 1am and 1.15am, she slept from 7pm until 5.45am! :jLong may it continue!

Re. biscotti - another example of all babies being different then! Eating one takes ages here - she licks it for a bit, then passes it between hands, turns it around, then sticks it in her mouth to make it a bit soggy, then studies it for a bit... She can easily spend 10 minutes eating one.

No, she likes our body heat, as soon as she is placed in her cot she wakes up, so she sleeps in bed with me but my oh is scared to roll over her so he sleeps in the couch, i really need to get her to sleep in her cot but do not know how to go about it. HV says of course she wants to be with you, and just leaves it at that.

:o If it makes you feel better, that's the best night we've had in months. I'd say it's in our top 3 ever. We've had several weeks recently of being awake for 2-3 hours solid every night, screaming and wanting to be picked up and if she is picked up, more screaming when we stop her from crawling off the side of our bed - exhausting!

Re. not wanting to sleep in her cot - I think most of us have experienced this, my LO was at least 3 months old before she'd nap anywhere but on my lap. She'll get there - including at night. Newborns just love being held :o You can try putting something that smells of you in her cot, warm it with a hot water bottle before putting her to bed, swaddling her in a blanket and hold her for a bit before putting her down and some kind of toy like Ewan, but ultimately she probably just needs to grow out of it.
