The royal baby has been born! :T0
-
That's true. Except... He had one and I had four!0

Well, apparently babies' and toddlers' stomachs are a third of the size of ours, so that's not too far off the correct ratio!0

George is clearly very excited about the birth of the royal baby boy...he is currently laid on the sofa blowing raspberries lol
He isn't even close to going to sleep & I have no idea why! Oh well, I shall see how the rest of the evening pans out.
Saw the HV visitor today & had him weighed, 18lb 15oz at 23wksWe discussed weaning too as he's showing a major interest in food. It's nigh on impossible to eat with him nearby unless you want his hands in your food, he can sit up well unaided & her response was quite positive. She said that of we feel he's ready then we can try him with bits & bobs of food, just advised on the things we should avoid (honey, nuts etc) but said whenever we're ready because he's near enough 6mths now anyway
We went for a pic in last week, Daddy cut the skin of an orange segment & I let him suck on it a bit, realised he'd sucked a third of the orange away, stuck a finger in his mouth to rescue it & it'd gone! He's clearly ready so we're going to try him with bits starting over the next few days
Any tips on baby led weaning for us? And can someone link me to that recipe for porridge fingers please? I'd like to have a go with them

I started blw days short of six months, the first couple of weeks almost nothing was swallowed, after that she's better at it and now munches and swallows pretty much everything we offer. I read it's first to offer big pieces at first, so they can grab them and suck on whatever gets out in their fist, then move to small pieces when they learn how to drop it in their mouths. I had success with soft baby carrot, banana, baby biscuits, white rice, grilled fish, chicken in very thin pieces, mince meat, mozzarella cheese, toast, cucumber, red pepper, cheerios, mini wheats, omelette, ...
Yay for sitting up!!
My lo goes to bed at 8pm. It helped having a routine at the same time every day and taking her to the bedroom away of tv, light, DH and noises for the last feed. I do the same for naps. I take her to the bedroom, draw the curtains, put Ewan the sheep, feed her and rock her a bit if she isn't sleepy. Yesterday she fell asleep in her cot from being half awake!! Finally!! At least once!!Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Hi ladies, when did you start evening routines? I've heard 4-6 weeks but other people say much later. LO hates the bath at the moment so we need to get over that in the next couple of weeks to settle her at night. She just seems to get overtired at the moment and then scream for hours so we're wondering if she might start getting used to a routine.0

We started from 6 weeks - we didn't do bath bottle and bed routine that I've heard some ladies do. My oh doesn't finish work till 6 then goes to the gym for an hour and my lo naps from 7-8 then has his last bottle so it left no time for him to help with a bath. We just made sure we did the same thing night after night.
When are you giving lo a bath? We've learnt that if he is over tired or hungry he won't enjoy a bath, so I do it closer to his nap before his last feed as I find it will send him off quicker!
Hope this helpsNewly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
Thanks, that's really helpful. We've tried bath in the morning a couple of times (mainly because she was covered in exploding nappy!) and mid-afternoon when she's really alert so far - neither went well. Going to try an evening bath tonight0

My lo hated the bath until she was around 12-14 weeks, we do it in the morning. We started a routine at around the same time, but it's quite short: nappy change with song, put into sleeping bag, say night night to daddy, go to bedroom, put Ewan, feed and bed. Naps are the same but without the sleeping bag and daddy. I used to read a baby book but if she was tired she got grumpy, so now I do that when awake. As long as it's in the same order, consistent, and roughly at the same time, do what's best for you.
Bath didn't fit well here either because from the start she was with us whilst we had tea, first in the bouncer on the table, now in the highchair. That meant 6:30-7:30 pm. I don't like rushing the bath now she enjoys it, so we do it together in the morning. I found that my lo didn't like the bath because of the temperature and the surprise of being put in, I now do a routine too, we collect her bath toys and changing mat, we go to the bathroom, open the water, put music on, etc. I had to have the water spot on at 37 or she would complain, now with the heat 35-36 was fine. She also hated the drying up process, I now put my bathrobe first (those made of towel material, not the freeze ones), I cuddle her against me whilst I put another towel behind her and stay like that for a while drying her slowly. Baby towels were a waste of money here, they didn't turn up to be softer than our normal towels and now they are in the small side so won't cover her!
Ps: we have a bath together, as mrsharworth said. First I used a tippitoes mini bath inside my bath, mine with not much water, more shower than bath. The tippitoes bath has a recliner shape and it's smaller than normal baby baths, so lo didn't slip or move, pretty much hands free. Now I put her in a chair that gillyx suggested, swivel bath chair. I have seen a bath divider at NCT that I plan on buying next, if only to save water by reducing the bath size for her, or so I can use products on my side and her oilatum on her side.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*
