Oh lord moneypenny! Glad all is well now. I feel like a horrid mother... Dewi turns all shades when he's gagging and I don't take a blind bit of notice. Can't usually get much passed the count of 10 before he coughs and is fine again. Even the mandarin came up pretty sharp ish and I just sat there ><

The Philly sounds exact right! Quick tip... Don't give it (or other messy stuff) to a tired baby. Dewi gave himself a Philly facial... Including his eyelids, eyelashes, nostrils and ear holes!!!

My friend borrows Dewi to have cuddles. He's such a cwtchy baby and will happily sit on you for hours. He's not actually sitting yet which is rather disappointing. He just flops over. He's fine with a bit of support but he can barely manage a second. Ok there have been moments but that's mostly where he's leaning forward not sideways and it's hard to fall face first when your legs are there. Gilly has assured me that it's normal but he does seem to be a bit slow :( he's had fabulous head control from day one (or more... 7 when he was actually allowed to be held properly). When would it become a concern that he's not sitting?

Don't feel like a horrid mother on my account, I wish I was more rational and gave it until 10 before freaking out. Maybe I'll try that next time! It's probably more conducive than dancing round a room with a baby on my forearm!

Lol at the philly facial. We had 'rusk facial' last week, which goes on easy but once solid takes a good scrub in the bath to come off :D

I wouldn't have thought it was a problem at all yet, isn't it about 7-8 months they sit? Maybe even later? My little one went from tumbling and not even managing a couple of seconds to sitting up for minutes on end literally overnight and that only happened this week (6.5 months). We were amazed as she seemed so far away from being able to manage it and it was as though suddenly she did it. As for falling forward thats her favourite way to fall. And they don't save themselves with their arms these babies! Lots of face planting!

Yeah, mine also went from sitting with help for a couple of seconds to sitting for a couple of minutes overnight, and to sit up by herself within a couple of weeks. If he's sitting now with help, he might easily be sitting up next week! I think every baby develops different abilities at different stages, also depending on what they are practising more, I guess. Yours seem to eat amazingly well, even pinching blueberries, which is quite advanced I'd say. Many other babies here cannot have anything but purees at that age. Others are chatting and copying stuff. Others are more about motor skills. I think you have nothing to worry, he just has his priorities in learning, he's mastering eating skills and developing hand-eye coordination, I bet he'll be amazing soon at the toys where you stack or put shapes inside holes. Mine is good at motor skills, she propped herself up today to a standing position by grabbing the cot rails, but she has no interest in other babies and she bloody won't sleep through!! Lol. Yours has mastered that skill from almost the start! I don't think there's anything to worry, NHS says between 6-9 months for sitting up.

Edit: I have lots of pillows and cushions on the floor, I just move them around when she moves!

I'm suddenly having massive problems with nappy change. She'll scream murder when she touches the changing mat and roll over immediately. I cannot keep her there and often I need help to keep her in place. It started a couple of weeks ago, but I don't know what has changed, she used to love it and play with her feet or chat, now she cries and goes bright red. She will only cry in that situation. What can I do and why could it happen? DH says it's his fault, as he has hold her in place firmly when she tried to roll over... But he hasn't changed that many nappies lately as to justified such a change. What can I do to make her like it again?

quick reply marta as baby on knee (note time!!), my little one does this too its hard work keeping her flat on her back but giving her a muslin (or similar) to play with seems to work as she focuses on that rather than rolling. i find the rolling easier to deal with when i change her on her changing table rather than on a mat on the floor. with the latter i seem to chase her half way across the room as she rolls like mad.

now back to getting someone back to sleep!!!!!!! (p.s. she seems absolutely fine after earlier incident luckily!)

I think the vast majority of people would do what you did moneypenny.

Perhaps you are right. He does seem brilliant with his hands and is a very observant little baby.

He doesn't sleep through btw. The long nights last for maybe 2 weeks. Admittedly most nights he does sleep more than his little buddies. Last night was 7.30-12-feed-5.30-feed-yawn his head off but refuse to sleep any more. We also struggle terribly with naps. He had 10min yesterday morning and he slept for two half hour walks to my friends and back. It's not unusual at all for him to have maybe half hour of sleep all day despite being tired for most of it!

    Morning ladies :)

Hope your nights were ok - we had a much better one thanks to LO's new fan :D

Re nappy change and rolling - we had the exact same issue here at that age, indeed I posted a very similar cry for help a few months ago! I think it happens because they get excited about all the things they're suddenly able to do, so the last thing they want to do is lie still! I can't offer any advice other than that distraction sometimes works - a packet of wet wipes to play with, a bag of cotton wool, a spare nappy, anything that's different from what they normally play with. In our case it did pass after a few weeks and she's absolutely fine with nappy changing now, so there's hope :)

Have a good day all x

marta, it's just something that happens I think [the hating nappy time]. Freddie screams blue murder and really tries to get away. As he's pretty big and strong it makes for a very stressful experience. I've not found much that helps, tbh, although a lot depends on his mood (if he's happy it's not too bad, tired or hungry and things are a lot harder). I tend to sing loudly, keep throwing things at him to play with and get it over with as quickly as possible.
