Aw Fluff you make me blush
Mrs H, push for a quicker referral, rapid response is what you want to ask for. Is he in pain? If the reflux is severe, weaning won't automatically solve it, and could cause issues if not done under the advice of a pead. There could be an intolerance there. Push for the referral, they should see you in 3 weeks or less as you have such a little one. What medication have you been given so far? Have you tried feed thickener?
The only thing they've given me is gaviscon to use with cow and gate (what we started with) it didn't help. So we tried this sma staydown as its thicker, and it's a god send but it makes him constipated. He was constipated for 3 weeks last time, dr said No can do to help that but will refer to hospital. And also said to speak to hv, spoke to hv and she said change milk to comfort milk or go back to gp. Changed to comfort milk, he seemed to be pain free for 2 weeks but this week he's been back to how he was at the beginning!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
No I'd go back and say you want a referral and you need it now. I'm surprised they haven't offered you Ranitidine actually as that tends to be next port of call after Gaviscon. My experience with Gaviscon was awful, but I know others on the thread found it ok. HV, ignore, ignore, ignore. They can't do anything about referrals etc (well they can't here anyway) GP needs to be the one to deal with it.
Comfort milk tends to be for constipation, babies struggling to process milk through there system, it has lower levels of lactose as far as I'm away. Stay down/anti reflux tends to thicken in the stomach. It may be an idea to try an actual thickener, none of the stay down milks worked for us but the thickener did. The item in question is Cow and Gate Carobel, all instructions are on the back on the box, i.e amount to put in each bottle. You can buy it from any pharmacy for around £3 a box (although it may need to be ordered in) but many will give it free under the minor ailments service. It's completely natural, nothing medical in it so it's safe to give with any milk, but not milk that is naturally thicker (i.e comfort/stay down) You do need bigger sized teats though as it can really thicken it up, we were on Size 3 from around 4 weeks.
There shouldn't be a long wait for a referral and if there is complain. I was in the surgery most days, I'd say at least 3/4 out of 5 that they were open. We got an appointment through within 2 weeks. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Aw gilly your making me feel so much better, the last time I saw the dr (after having been 3 times in 3 weeks) she said "I suggest you get the hv to pop round more, she'll be able to see if he's constipated and tell you how much water he can have, saves you coming back here when he gets bad" basically telling me to p off! I've totally lost my confidence with the dr and I moved because they are only down the rd when I had lo! There's a couple of personal reasons why I should go back to the dr now but I just don't want to because she gave me the feeling she thinks I'm not coping (I crie at an appointment once) and I'm worried she's judged me!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Can you change the GP and go see a different one? You can lodge a complaint with the practice manager if you feel her behaviour was bordering on unprofessional.
We too had the 'first time parent' talk all about how 'babies cry' and we should deal with it. My poor munchkin had a dairy intolerance, and was like a different baby over night when we got his milk sortedThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

The first dr said he really doubted he has reflux and " we worry about our first" meaning if it had been my second baby I wouldn't care??
The woman dr blatantly thinks I'm not coping after crying and going so much. I'm going to ring drs on Monday and push the referral and then make an appointment and bring up everything you've just said. I don't know my options and the dr hasn't mentioned anything you said so at least I'm armed with some info nowyou've made me so happy thank you

With the bad nights too, refluxers are notoriously bad sleepers, they go hand in hand, which I know isn't brilliant news to your ears, but if he's uncomfortable he will struggle to drop off, as he'l be sore.
If they're discouraging with the reflux etc, just nod and smile and ask for the referral, that will be up to the pead to decide, not them. I think we only actually got treatment because I eventually got so sick of it and said 'this is what I believe is wrong, this is what I think would solve it, I'm not leaving' They weren't convinced even at the hospital but I pushedI really hope you can get it sorted x

Evening ladies
Just a quick question for those with a gro anywhere blind: does it let air through if the window is open? LO now wakes up at 4.30 every morning regardless of when she goes to bed, so I'm wondering if daylight is to blame. There's a blackout blind in her room, but there are gaps on both sides, so it doesn't stay completely dark. Air and open windows are important to us though...
Hope everyone has a good night x0 -
I don't know Nutella, we have one, but it's on a door, not a window (balcony) so it's never open at nightThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Idk nutella, but I have easyblinds (fabric with black out in one side and soft material on the other to attach with Velcro), you attach it to the frame. If there's frame enough around the glass window to put the Velcro on, you should not have a problem. They are for pvc windows, though, as the Velcro would not damage any paint if removed. Also, you get the fabric and the Velcro, and you cut it to size. If you get them, cut an extra cm around at least, I cut them exact to size and I have to carefully put them on otherwise I get a millimeter or two with light. My pvc windows are white and the Velcro blends quite well, you cannot tell it's there from the distance.I can take a pic if you want. I have extra fabric too, how big is your window?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Morning ladies
As predicted, after last night, we're having a rubbish night tonight! But we had a good day yesterday and the traffic was kind. Actually it was all much easier than I expected and the sling was brilliant as I could feed her whilst my friend and I browsed. Browsing in mothercare my friend mentioned to one of the salespeople that I don't have a pram. Cue the salesgirl tell us all about this fantastic new pram they have on offer at £495! Uh, no thanks! I'll stick to babywearing - it suits me, it suits A and it fits our lifestyle.
My GP is weird. Not one for communicating much, but A is fine and he's happy with how my wound is healing up but thanks to the antibiotics I've nipple thrush so one more thing to get sorted. Hey ho, it will get better. And when I think my body is taking strain and time to get back to "me", I look at A and know its worth it and I'd do it all again and more to have her safe and sound.
lazywife even using email forms stresses me, as you always have to put a contact number and then I worry they'll ring back instead of replying by email! And shock horror, I won't be able to answer and they'll leave a message for me to ring back...
fluff thank you for your last post. It helps just to read it in black and white.
Thanks for all the advice re passport photos. There's a Snappy Snaps in one of the nearby towns so I'll pop there next week. I don't want to have them rejected as need to do two applications: SA and UK.
Gonna try putting A down again.0
