morocho, Yay for a good night's sleep! Long may it continue :)

We went to baby group today; it was quiet - not a lot of moms and babes, but still good to get out. Last week when we went, Abi slept through it. Today she was having a feed when we got there (woke up ready for a feed just as I needed to leave the house, but managed to distract her till I had driven there and parked). After her feed she had some tummy time, followed some of the toys and cooed and gurgled. When I popped in the post office after to collect a form to get her passport she naturally screamed blue murder whilst I was in the queue - but nothing happened! It was the first time I was out with her in a shop situation with her crying, and I survived it. She fell asleep as I got to the front of the queue and slept through being transferred into her car seat and all the way home.

So ladies, any tips on getting an acceptable passport photo with a 7 week old? I believe photobox will print them if I take the photo here at home.

Tomorrow we've our doctors check and then think I'll take her to meet a friend for lunch. Here's hoping for a good night for us all

    Hey

Our LO was 3 weeks when we did his passport photo, we went to a place that took them, he just put him on a bean bag thing with a white blanket and took one. He is asleep on his photo haha....only cost about 3quid.

Ohh SAff, hope that infection clears up soon, how old is your LO ? I took me a long time to take Jade anywhere without getting really stressed, it went on for months until i took her to an osteopath and he gave me back a new baby( she was 3 1/2 months.... i sent her passport papers on monday and today they sent me a message, it seems like they are not that busy at the moment, hopefully i get it soon.

How is everyone ? My lil one has got a bit of a cold, not bad at all, but spent the whole week at home and i am fed up now, also the rain does not help.

Does anyone do hours from home? How does it work? It's an option for me when I have to return in September.

They're very very strict on what passport photos need to be like, so I would go to a photography place and get them done. We did what Sunshine did - LO was 3 weeks old; she was lying on the floor on a white mat. I think we paid £7 for 4 photos.

I do around 10 hours a week from home. You'll need to speak to your employer about their process, but at my office I had to fill in a flexible working request form. I would assume that most employers have a similar process as legally, when you have caring responsibility for a child, your employer has to consider such a request and provide a valid business reason if they say no. On my form I was asked to explain how me working from home could affect my work, and how I was going to mitigate those issues - basically showing that I'd thought things through. My form was then reviewed by my manager and HR and my request was approved. They might also ask for a meeting to discuss further with you.

Ideally you would arrange childcare for when you're working from home to make sure you actually get some work done! I haven't - it's my way of trying to save on nursery costs - and it does affect my work, but I'm superproductive when LO naps and I often end up doing a couple of hours after she's gone to bed. My OH works shifts, so he's around for part of the day too. LO has learnt to keep herself entertained though - I play with her for a bit, then she plays on her own whilst I get some work done, then we have a cuddle and play a bit together, then I do some work... and so on :)

One of the best things about working from home (apart from being with LO and not spending time commuting) is that if by some miracle she sleeps beyond 6am, I can sleep too. And if we've had a really bad night and I'm knackered, I can take a nap in my lunch break :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
All the advice is hilarious - I was told allsorts mainly about breast feeding (so many people are so anti-BF it was untrue and said it was time to give up after about 6 weeks ) and weaning ("my boys were on a rusk at 2 weeks old" - how nice for them!).

Hope all are well - I just have a grumpy baby on my hands who sleeps brilliantly at night and grizzles all day - just wish I knew what she was grizzling for, poor girl!

Oh yes, can't believe how many people are against BF. Most noticably MIL, she's always trying to prove how inconvenient it is, or telling me how tired I must be... even if I was FF I would still get up with LO(!?!)
T is the same, he does long sleeps at night, but spends equal time awake and happy and awake and grumpy in the day! I think he's just stating to notice more things, so keeps himself awake and then gets more hungry. Also hates being trapped in anywhere eg car seat, or pram, if the harness in car seat is looser when he's on the travel system he's happier, but obv has to be nice and tight for travelling in the car, so he's grumpy until he falls asleep. (Also seems to poo more when he's grumpy... not sure if it's the poo that makes him grumpy, or the straining with being stroppy that makes him poo!)

This talk of returning to work has made me think I need to look into options round here as I've no idea of waiting lists.
I had exact same thought today. There is a good nursery round the corner from DH work, a couple of friends children go there and it's supposed to be very good, also it'll be very convenient for us. I've emailed them today about what sort of notice I'd have to give to reserve places etc and said I'd like to come and look around. They suggested for returning to work in May 2014 I've provisionally said probably 4 days they'll need reserving before Sept 2013 (not sure how much they charge to reserve places).

I've really got to pluck up courage to get out and about to Mums groups. I know of a few in town, so it's just getting out there... and getting organise enough that both of us are dressed and out of the house before midday.. a challenge in itself at the mo!

Had 2 days this week with DH out late with meetings. T is being quite good, so it's not been too bad, but DH does find it hard that he doesn't really see anything of his little man as he's up and out in the morning and T in bed when he gets back about 10pm.
Hopefully a bit more sunshine soon everyone.

There are pros and cons to bf, I did it for 14 mths with my first. It was great not having to wash and sterilise bottles, being able to feed where ever or whenever you just pop you LO on and they can feed in seconds, not having to haul you !!! up to make bottles in the middle of the night, but then you can't pass the baby to OH and get them to feed so you can have some sleep. Plus if you do go back to work or want to go out for a bit you have to pump. If you don't pump you get really full and can leak.

Another pro is I know there was a formula shortage a little while ago and some people were left without formula to feed their LO so I didn't have this problem you only need you and the baby to feed.

    It saves money as well!

My MIL was a bit !!!!y about it, FIL got really funny if I was feeding and would disappear- not a bad thing!!
