Just remembered, my MIL did once ask (via OH) when we were having LO's ears pierced  In her culture it's common practice to do that when babies are really young, and then close relatives buy them gold earrings to welcome them to the family.

My reply? 'When she's old enough to decide for herself if she wants her ears pierced'. That was accepted, and she bought her something else instead :)

(my slightly less polite response to OH, who seemed to think his mum had a point, was something along the lines of 'hell no! There's absolutely no way she's having her ears pierced at this age!!!')

Morocha, try to lay down in bed with her, my lo has longer naps that way.

In my country (Spain) baby girls get their ears pierced at birth or soon after in hospital, and they put some baby earrings there by the nurses. I will let her decide when she's older, though. In Spain she would be the odd one for not having them, but here is the other way round and we decided not to. DH is English and he thought the tradition was very weird, but my family was also asking about that in order to get her some earrings.

I do ask for opinions and listen to what they say, but I'm not having anyone telling me I'm doing stuff "wrong" just because I'm doing it differently, and knowing I'm doing what is being recommended now by the official bodies or health professionals. It just does my head in when the "advice" is actually against current advice, or can be harming. But again, I usually bore them with details and book extracts and examples from the forum, so eventually they nod and that's it :D

Marta, I can so picture you quoting NHS guidelines at your relatives! :rotfl:You sound like someone who looks into things in a lot of detail (and I mean that in a good way :)); I can only imagine their faces when a bit of well-intended 'advice' gets ripped to pieces as you quote research findings at them! :D

I don't get so much now though. People probably run away when they see us coming :rotfl:

I was a teenage mum too so I know the type of 'advice' you mean! with ds1 my mil told me I had to be home every day by 4pm as it got cold and dark, she used to phone around 10 past to make sure I was in, apparently it was wrong of me to even contemplate taking him out for a walk after that time. I think people now realise i'm always going to be a cr&p mum and no matter how much advice they give me they wont change that. My kids will always look dirty and scruffy*. :D

*My boys aren't really dirty or scruffy.

It is a cultural thing, but i know how baby girls ears pierced are viewed here, my 6 yo has hers done at 3 months old and couldnt be happier, she loves hers, Jade will have hers done when we go to Spain next month, my Oh is English and he sees nothing wrong with them, actually asked me when i was gettings Jades pierced as as they grow it gets more painful.

Hahaha!! My DH would say that I waste too much time "researching", lol. I do have to admit I often overdo it, and no matter how much I read about stuff, there's always a million things I have no clue about. I think since I got pregnant not a day passes without getting to know something new!

I got a quote from my nearby nursery, £45 per day... I should change career and open a nursery.

Omg! For that amount I'd expect my child to be Einstein by the end! Lol they do make a lot of money, I wonder what it costs to run a nursery because I know they don't pay a lot! :) is it bad that I'm thinking of picking oh up in my pjs? Just because I can't be bothered to get changed and I'm only getting in and out of the car? Hmm not sure oh will appreciate it though.... Might just do it to see his face!
