Mrs_b I've heard of the express while feeding thing but it's never worked for me. DD1 was too distracted by it and DD2 is easily distractible so haven't tried it with her. Seems a bit much to me trying to juggle a wriggly baby and express at the same time.
A busy day of cleaning, tidying, organising and baby feeding here - I feel all fifties housewifey now. Chilli for tea and then a quiet evening going through photos on the computer I think. What is everyone else up to today?0 -
Morocha, I think other things that can help with a fever are less clothing and tepid baths/flannels. But I'd probably phone NHS direct or 111 for advice with a baby that young with a fever.0

We went to the park this morning, and for ice cream (for mummy and daddy) and not done much else today, currently cooking dinner for us all, bangers and mash with home made Yorkies and veg, yum yum.
Once baby goes to sleep, bit of tidying and watching telly more than likely, I lead a very exciting life. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I had one bottle of J2O and the next day Dewi had nappy rash. Don't know if it's linked directly but have avoided since just in case.
OH is working tonight. Hoping he doesn't wake me when he gets inhe always does though!

I got two of the stairgates this morning - they're Lindam ones, and were £15 each at my local store. Wanted to get a box of nappies too, as I am very impressed by them out of all the ones I've tried so far, but I couldn't carry anything else
Also stocked up on baby milk at Morrisons. After the recent supply issues, it made me realise that I should have two or three weeks supply in the cupboard just incase, especially until she's eating solids regularly. I guess you just take it for granted that you can just nip to the shops and get more if you run out.
Had another good night last night - she did wake at 4.30am for a bit, but after putting her dummy in a few times, she slept on till 6.20am. I'm not sure what tonight will bring though, as she's all out of her routine today. I'm hoping she'll want another feed around 8pm tonight before she settles off properly, although she's already had five feeds today, so it's unlikely.
I'm absolutely cream crackered at the moment. Been busy rearranging furniture and sorting clutter out, as well as the usual laundry, cleaning, cooking and babycare. I've had a hormonal headache all day too (the type that doesn't respond to painkillers) so I'm having a well deserved sit down now!"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" - Wayne Dyer

Aventurine, that "hormonal headache" might be in fact q migraine, thus it won't respond to painkillers. I suffer from it and t used to be 24-48h in bed. Ask your GP for sumatriptan or go to a pharmacy and get the imigran test done (just answer a few questions) to see if they can give you a box. The imigaran over the GP counter has 2 tablets for about £9, the prescription have 6, although you can only have two during a migraine attack. It's not a painkiller, it regulates the chemicals that produce the migraine, so it won't work either unless it's a medically diagnosed bmigraine. .However, it works in half an hour, so it's worth to ask. They won't give it to you unless it's a migraine.
Who asked about a windy baby at night? At 5-6am my lo wakes up and cries and grunts whilst trumping. The only thing that relieves her, oddly enough, is to put her with me in bed with my arm under her head, a bit propped up. She falls asleep again and I can either put her on the moses or lay her flat with me until she wakes up for the day. Very odd, I don't get why it helps.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Hi everyone!
Re gluten - the advice I read (along with other conflicting bits of advice available) was that it is best to introduce it AFTER 4 months and BEFORE 6 months IF baby is exclusively breastfed. No other solids - just a bit of semolina or other gluten cereals (2-3g) once a day mixed with breast milk. After 6 months the dose should be doubled and from 7 months gluten can be given without any limitations. This ensures gluten is introduced gradually and breast feeding at the same time reduces the risk of celiac disease.
I'm bottle feeding but have adapted this advice and started small doses of gluten after 6 months and have been gradually increasing them. I decided there's no harm in increasing gluten doses gradually rather than overwhelming baby's tummy with gluten at 6 months but what works for me may not work for everybody.0 -
I can confirm the aldi bibs are good - got a pack today and they are great value at £2.99 for 2.
Have just read 8 pages so my mind is a blur and can't remember who said what, but rusks in bottles no no no. I know the person who said it isnt going to do it, but just in case anyone was thinking of it. You risk you baby aspirating it (breathing in). You shouldn't be putting anything except formula or breastmilk in your less than 6 month old baby's bottle, unless your GP/midwife tells you otherwise. Thckening it with cereal, rice, rusks etc has been shown to be quite dangerous.0
