Welcome all new mummies, love the teeny baby pics!
Good luck for week 34 Dizzi
We had night number 5 of screaming with wind in the early hours of the morning. She slept 11 - 3.30 a ten minute feed and straight back down, I was soooo pleased...then at 5am lots of screams, leg raising and general unhappiness followed by a couple of trumps.A drop of gripe water helped though didn't work its magic as quickly as it used to and she had a couple of minutes feed but it was a comfort suck for definite as she calmed down and drifted off.
Anyone got any advice on how to stop this? We've stopped the bottle for a few days in case it was that but its happened regardless of the bottle the last 2 nights. All the elders of the family say that me/my husband/my cousins were all on a 1/4 or 1/2 a rusk in our bottles by 10 weeks which would settle the stomach and reduce the wind. However as she is only 10 weeks I don't want to do that yet as the bare minimum I read is 17 weeks. Is hungry milk the same sort of thing as a solid? Just feel like I've got no real solutions for this. I swear if any family member utters the word "rusk" or "solid" again I'll flip! But if they did it and we turned out OK, maybe that is the solution?! I just don't know. HV won't be any help as she will just say exclusive breast feeding until she is 21 no doubt (:rotfl:)
Aventurine - that is one enviable sleep! 11-3.30 is one of our best :rotfl:
In other news, its been lovely and sunny here today :T0 -
Moneypenny, sorry I don't have any advice but just to say that at 10 weeks I definitely wouldn't consider solids and I can guarantee that your HV would say the same thing. The advice on when to start was changed due to extensive research finding that their digestive system simply isn't mature enough. We all slept on our tummies as babies, research has shown that sleeping on your back reduces the risk of cot death, so the advice changed - same thing....0

Very true thanks Nutella. I think I'm getting fed up of the eye rolling of me not considering solids yet and eye rolling that baba is feeding every 2-3 hours "she should be on 4 hourly feeds" - more advice that has changed! Ho hum.
To top it off, I've melted the tubing for my breast pump in the steriliserI'm not sure how it happened as its been in loads of times before but I'm not happy!
Baa! I shall take my moaning vibes away0 -
Things are so different from when I was born, mums then were advised to get baby on a feeding pattern ASAP but they also used to advise putting baby outside in the pram and leaving them  whereas now whether bf or ff it's on demand.
As Nutella said there is research that supports the train of thought that celiac disease, IBS are all caused by early weaning.
Food will not keep a baby sleeping through, if they are gonna wake they will. I early weaned (17 weeks on peadatric advice) and he still woke every 3-4 hours until he was 6 months old, whereas Ive known babies exclusively bf who slept through from 4 weeks. It's the luck of the draw sadly.
If it helps A wasn't a good sleeper but from 6months when he did sleep through hes been a great sleeper and sleeps brilliantly now
I weaned at 17 weeks and really really wished I hadn't.The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
P.s the tubing isn't supposed to be sterilised. I done the same thing and it melted xx (if it's the Medela swing?)The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Why do you wish you hadn't weaned at 17 weeks Gilly (if you don't mind me asking)? Yes it's the Medela Swing tubing  Boo
It hasn't melted in the last 10 weeks so why now?! Boo!
Edit: I'm not actually too bothered about the sleeping - I can cope with waking twice a night. I think I'm literally fed up of being told X baby sleeps for this long and is on this milk or on a rusk. I think maybe I just need to smile and ignore!0 -
A few reasons really, one if I'd waited I could have done baby led weaning from the beginning but with starting at 17 weeks I couldn't, I was advised by a doctor and midwife that he wasn't gaining brilliantly and with reflux it's good to wean early, and Ive since found out that what I was feeding him has fewer calories than milk did so it didn't help him gain either, the thought I could have given him future problems, like IBS or celiac Disease
I know for next time though
Sometimes I think you need to stick your fingers in your ears and say lalalala. Trust your own instincts toox

Money penny - my tubing for my medela went mouldy in storage between no 1 and no2 so I had to buy a new one. I got one from eBay for a few quid (actually 2 in the pack) and despite it being Christmas week it arrived the next day
. They aren't medela but work perfectly. I've been looking for the second one so I could send it you (its unused) but I appear to have put it somewhere safe :rotfl: I'll look again later or you can search on eBay. Can't remember the company name but it was free p&p and about £4.50 I seem to remember. HTH.

Evening ladies, welcome and congratulations to the new faces!
I haven't had 2 minutes peace since we've been home to get on so have had a quick read back just now.
Dizzi - fingers crossed for week 34! Hope your mil issues have calmed down a bit now.
Morocha - glad to hear things are looking up a bit for you!
Aventurine - brilliant sleeping! That's about the same as the best we've had too - my monster has slept through a grand total of 3 times in his almost-10-month life.
Had him at the docs today; his virus has turned into a chest infection so got some antibiotics for him, and steroid cream for his excema. Hopefully it'll all start to clear up soon, poor boy is a patchwork of red and dry patches at the moment.Newborn thread member

Shes very irritable today, wont feed properly this morning and had been waking up lots during the night, i dont think she teething and i do wonder if she needs to start being weened, shes 21 weeks, when did everyone else start? As Nutella said there is research that supports the train of thought that celiac disease, IBS are all caused by early weaning.Food will not keep a baby sleeping through, if they are gonna wake they will. Coincidentally, I was very happy this morning because I had a good night that only involved one waking. Although not so great on the feeding front today - she fed every two hours but I'm hoping this is because she is planning to sleep all night.
Today we did drawing for the first time. It was quite a challenge to keep the pencils out of her mouth. But then when it was dinner time ( we are doing BLW), she seemed completely underwhelmed and not particularly bothered about trying to put the food in her mouth. DD1 wasn't actually eating at this stage either but she certainly used to suck the food to death.0
