Evening ladies,
Needing a bit of support tonight..... Lo has had a horrible day, cried a lot and I think because I've been ill the last couple of days it's all gotten on top of me! I ended up going to the drs with him because his poo has gone really hard and he struggled to get it out today, I think it's this stay down milk (full of iron)
Dr reassured me and told me how to get rid of constipation and we also discussed if it doesn't get better to go back on cow and gate and give him gaviscon for reflux. Hoping water will help his poo!
I started crying in front of the dr when she asked if I was ok! The last couple of weeks have really gotten to me, my oh works and goes to the gym after so i have the lo alone for about 12 hrs a day, it's got to me how my lo went from a happy hungry but contented baby to a screaming in pain baby! And it all came to a head. I feel like I'm failing and I'm only 8 weeks inhe's been really good since we got back from the drs and we've given him a bath and he's asleep on my shoulder! It makes me sad that today I couldn't wait for him to fall asleep for the night and now I'm feeling guilty for even thinking that.
I KNOW he will grow out of reflux and colic but saying he'll be better in 2/3 months feels more like 2 years than 2 months!!
Any words of wisdom?Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
He's breast fed
Any ideas on the sorts of foods it could be?
Hi, sorry to jump in but I found when I ate grapes my lil miss suffered terribly with wind - took me a few weeks to figure that one out but I just stopped eating them and the problem went instantly.
Edited to add: I had some last week as figured she may have grown out of it but no such luck!0 -
Kayalana99 my 9.5month old son does occasionally bite people. I never put my fingers in his mouth but sometimes when I'm doing the washing up he'll crawl up behind me and bite me on the leg. Or we're cuddling and then he'll suddenly bite me on the shoulder.0

MrsHaworth2b - big hugs, I've been there re breaking down at the docs, did s/he suggest anything to help with your mood or anything? Personally I think a word with your OH re cutting down on his gym time would be a good start. 12 hours with even the world's happiest baby is a bloody long day!
Bellola - Yup its a phase, we went through it and if I remember right so did Nutella. Its the excitement of being able to stand up and move around! G just couldn't seem to help himself - if he was even slightly awake then that was it, he was up on his feet. Even if he was crying because he was so tired. Dafty. It'll pass, we just went in, laid him down, said sleepy time and walked out - even if he was back up before we were out the door we left and waited a minute or two before going back in. There's no point trying to hold him down, just made him cross.Newborn thread member

Oh my gosh, i am sorry for just jumping in after not posting for ages but i am going insane and need reassurance that this is just a phase...S can now crawl, pull herself up and walk along furniture and her favourite time to do this nap/bed time. For the past 2 weeks it has taken well over an hour to get her to sleep as she goes down sleepy but then wakes, stands and screams. She gets put back down, told its sleepy time, calmed down and door shut but just does it over and over until eventually she goes to sleep after patting and ssshhing. This is a phase right? Does anyone have any tips or coping mechanisms?!
Yes it isSame thing happened here - I think they're so excited about everything they're suddenly able to do that their minds and bodies just can't switch off and they want to keep practising at all hours of the day
In our case it would be in the middle of the night - she'd go to bed no problem, but then wake up after a few hours and start crawling, standing up and screaming. The latter would only happen if we left her in her cot, so we'd take her to our bed, where she'd then create mayhem at times like 1am-3.30am (it was always for at least 2 hours); just moving about, bouncing, crawling, climbing on the headboard, trying to switch the light on... you name it, she'd try to do it. It was exhausting and neatly coincided with me going back to work at almost 9 months.
I'm afraid I don't have any tips as we never found any solutions, but she did grow out of it after a few weeks. That's the only coping mechanism I can think of: keep telling yourself that it will end. Then take a deep breath and drink something strong when she finally falls asleep0 -
hugs mrsashworth. When did he go from happy but hungry to screaming in pain? Did you change formula or move him to formula from breast?
mrsB I'm sure I read somewhere that (eg) broccoli could give babies gas. Of course now I'm searching for it I find this instead which suggests it's possibly not what you're eating! http://kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/gassybaby/0 -
Mrsharworth, big hugs. It does get easier, and it will be sooner than you think. 5-10 weeks were my worst, as DH went back to work on week 5-6 and the days were long and full of crying, colic, reflux, catnapping, snack eating... I felt down and my self confidence fell below zero. BUT then suddenly everything improved: I got better at recognizing her cues, I got better at caring for her, she grew and her stomach matured, she got used to me, I used her nap times better... Try to have some time for yourself and get out if you can with the pram. I napped when she napped, I took her to the bathroom in her bouncer so I could have a proper shower, or put her in her tippitoes bath inside my bath (it has a seat so I could keep just one hand on her and bath myself), honestly, getting clean and dressed was a huge improvement, I used to have to wait for DH to have a shower. My lo was/is a bit demanding (but I don't mind) and she wants me right next to her, I used to get desperate because I could not eat or cook/do housework... but I started to take the bouncer with me or taking my plate and sit on the floor by her side until the phase passed. Now I leave her on the playmat happily babbling to herself and I can have my lunch or cook without much problem. She improved LOTS at 3 months and I read other people's los also improved at that age, I know it sounds far away but it's just round the corner. And I agree with what has been said, suggest your oh to reduce his gym hours for a couple of months or until you see an improvement in your lo, and try to have a nap whilst he's looking after the baby. My DH gets up with her either on Saturday or Sunday so I can have a lay in, and it makes a difference!Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Mrs B, I also read about problems induced by dairy and spicy food. Maybe Google "breastfeeding colic foods"?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Thanks for all the replies, think I'm just struggling with sleep deprivation and needed a quick fix! I think I've been spoiled with a not so fussy baby until now! I've taken her out a bit today and she's had a good 2-3 hours of naps since 10am. I've spotted a tooth on the bottom I think...though I thought I saw one one the top that I can't see now. Am I going mad? Imagining teeth?!
:rotfl: will just persevere, done lots of reading today on sleep training so will see how it goes.
Another quick question, my little one downs 7oz of formula before bed, should she be having more? She is breast fed except the night time bottle. She is 5 months, she doesn't leave any and cries for more. She has 8-10 feeds a day plus the bottle and solids twice a day.
Breastfed babies & wind, I was told to avoid onions, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.0
