    Infacol made my baby worse! It turned him from a hiccupy windy baby to a full blown screaming colicky one. I think it works for some though.

    I only used it a couple times cause my Mum kind of pushed me into it as he was crying at night...can't say it made much differnerce but I think he was just going through a phase as it only lasted a week or so

    Mrsharworth, I thought your lo was older than 3 months old, I also thought colic stopped at around 3 months, and pain and cries after that usually are something more specific?

    Re: exercise. What's that shred you talk about? Inspired by you motivation, I started my postnatal exercise DVD, it has 15min sessions, which to start is more than enough for a lazy couch potato like me! I'd like to tone a bit and lose some cms around the hips, I put on two trousers sizes and they have not dropped yet, in fact, I cannot even wear my pregnancy jeans! I put 20kg during pregnancy, lost 4kg at birth and was stuck t the same weight for ages but in the last 3 weeks I've lost 2kg+! (5lb?) !! I'm very pleased , just with portion control and less snacking)/ calorie counting.

    I have HV visit today but in the letter says staff nurse. No idea why it's different this time.

    Infacol worked for us for a while but eventually made her windy or so we thought, so we stopped using it at around 13 weeks.

    Anti-colic bottles: I use Dr Browns. I like them because they worked for us but I wish I had tried MAM before buying a whole set of Dr Brown's. The reason is that they leak if you put hot water, if you prepare the bottle with water that is too warm and you put it in a container with cold water to cool, you'll notice that the water has turned white because some milk has leaked out. This is due to the design and the vent, so you need to prepare bottles at the right drinking temperature or cooled. This, however, goes against what is recommended. I prepare bottles with cooled water, because my HV told me so, but I know the official NHS advice is to do it with water at 70degrees, which you cannot really do with these bottles without risking leakage. You also have to stir the powder, you cannot shake the bottle, so you might need to have sterilized spoons as well. However, Dr Browns sell also some kind of jug/container/ mixer where you prepare all your ounces for the day, you store it in the fridge and fill bottles as you go. I understand that MAM bottles are self sterilizing, which is something to look at. I would buy one of each, the cheaper you can find, and try them with your lo. I found Amazon the best for that, and quite often the starter kits were cheaper than one or two bottles when on offer.

    Hi Marta

    My lo is 8 weeks - I didn't know colic stops at 3 months - that makes me happy :)

    We've been told he has reflux so we've changed the milk and seeing how he goes with that but struggles with wind too so used gripe water but he was still screaming so trying the infacol.

    Hi, am new to this thread :wave:

    LO is nearly 8 weeks old and he's my second child.

    LO is very demanding and wanting fed all the time. I'm breastfeeding and he seems to get enough as he's putting on weight and seems fine but I am so tired. I've ended up giving him formula (1 or 2 bottles a day) and this has helped as he seems fuller for longer and sleeps! :)

    I don't know about any one else on this thread but I've had conflicting advice from midwives and the health visitor....one says to do both if that helps and the other says no as the bottle would confuse him. I've been using a dummy, bottle and been breastfeeding and he seems to do all with no problems re confusion. I've decided to do what's best for the 2 of us and keep doing what I'm doing. Mummy needs her sanity!

    My little one is 20 weeks, she had a dummy at 5 days, her first expressed bottle at 3 days and had a night time bottle of formula from 8 weeks. If we go out in the day now she has a bottle of formula but only as a one off. I echo what people have said, I don't think it will confuse but it will just lower your supply so you will have to keep bottle feeding to keep him topped up which is fine if you are happy to do that :) I have a very hungry baby too and it is hard going but she became a much easier baby to feed around 12 weeks when her feed times went down to about 10 minutes which is now great rather than 45 minutes every 2 hours :eek::eek::eek:

    I love MAM Anti-Colic bottles on the recommendation of Gilly :D (thank you!). I bought a MAM starter set for £14 from Tesco Direct which has been fine for us on the occasional bottle and is great value as they are nearer to £30 most places.

    Haven't used Infacol but have used Gripe Water which was like magic for the wind, it really settled her tummy pains down.

    Belated happy birthday to mini Nutella :)

    Get well soon Noah that looks really sore :(

    I knew I forgot to ask something: sleeping in your lo's bedroom. We are organizing ourselves and moving furniture around in preparation for when we move the cot into the nursery. We live in a two bedroom flat, so it's just next door, we have a monitor and we won't move her until she's six months at least. We were in no rush to do so, but we will have to because we bought new furniture and the cotbed won't fit anymore in our bedroom. We currently have three wardrobes in the nursery with our clothes and coats, and we wanted to get them out there so her bedroom could be just hers. So we bought some overbed units, wardrobes and ottoman bed for our bedroom, in order to fit everything in, but when it arrives, the cotbed won't fit and we will have to move her to her bedroom. However, not only she wakes through the night, but I was also thinking about when she's teething, or ill, and I was considering the idea of buying something for her bedroom where I could lay in, sleep or co-sleep if needed during the night. I thought of two options: a sofa bed and a day bed. A sofa bed I guess is more complicated to set up, but DH says it might look better. As a day bed I was considering the IKEA henmes, which has been posted here as well, which has three sides as an Edwardian daybed, storage underneath and can be used as a single bed or opened up to make a double. I think that's the best option, if we have another child and we need the cotbed, V can sleep in that bed until she's old enough for a bunkbed. Both solutions might also be used for guests, although we haven't thought how to get around the fact that any guest would be sleeping with her in the room. We are just hoping we don't have any until she sleeps through the night, lol. Not very concerned about that, though, we only had MIL as guest so far in the last six years, and she came to look after V anyway because I had to work next day. I think the IKEA bed would be a better investment but they make it only in white and all the furniture is beech or pine there. It also works out at £400+ with delivery and two mattresses(to make the double, which in reality would be bigger than a king size bed). The sofa bed would take less room and it would be probably cheaper. We live next to a Marks and Spencer's furniture outlet, which has everything half price or less, and I have £100 in vouchers, so definitely under £400. We went on Sunday to enquiry about one we had seen, and with voucher was £210, from an original price of £700. It had sold out though, you kind of need to reserve immediately anything you like because everything goes fast. Ok, my question:Do you have anything for you to sleep in, in your lo's bedroom? would it be better a sofa bed or a bed or nothing at all, from experience? I like the bed but it's a lot of money at the moment, although if it will be used and it lasts, then I'll consider it an investment.

    I bought some MAM glow in the dark dummies, gosh they've made my life easier at night!! Lol

    Hi Marta

    My lo is 8 weeks - I didn't know colic stops at 3 months - that makes me happy :)

    Those were the weeks I struggled the most, 5-13 weeks. She also had a combination of reflux and colic back then. For me, what worked was:

    * warming up the milk
    * stirring the formula, to prevent air bubbles in it
    * keeping her upright for 20min after a feed (I had a carrier)
    * changing the nappy before a feed instead of after (to avoid laying her down after a feed)
    * anti-colic bottles (Dr Brown / MAM recommended )
    * propping up her moses with some books under the legs.
    * Infacol helped her to burp but she hated the taste, you need to use it for at least two days before seeing any change
    * dentinox colic has a milder taste and is mixed with the milk but you can only use it 6times a day
    * aptamil control stays down more easily but smells of milk that has gone off and my baby ended up smelling of that, I really felt sick by the smell so I stopped using it.
    * Gaviscon helped but made her trump more and her nappies went green and thick, so I stopped using it too
    * tummy massage and bicycles helped release bottom wind
    * burping her by putting her tummy down on my thigh and rubbing her back helped to get out most of the wind
    * at around 3 months her stomach matured more and she stopped having reflux and colic. She still had wind and woke up at 4am trying to pass it. At 4 months she had more control of her bowel muscles and could pass wind more easily, so she is not bother by it anymore really, very rarely now, she can pass it both ways easily as far as I can see. She made the 5 month mark yesterday, I cannot remember when was the last time that she had colic, reflux or any tummy pain, I think at around the 3 month mark. And before that it was every day and she cried at least 5 hours of the day with pains. However, I think all that arching of her back with reflux helped her to learn how to roll, as it is what she does now to roll, arches and moves the legs to go sideways and then fall on her tummy. It had to have some silver lining, lol. Being a normal baby, I think most symptoms disappear at 3 months, unless you have a serious case of reflux, whether silent reflux or not, for what I read / in my experience / I can be wrong.
