Sounds scary Nutella, glad you're all home and on the mend now. I was refreshing and refreshing the page to see if you'd posted an update earlier on - isn't it funny how attached (not the right word really but can't think of a better one) you can get to people and babies that you only know online and have never even met?!
We've been out at fils today, such nice weather! Got a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge for when the monkey goes to bed too
How are you doing today Bamama?

Thank you for all your kind messages
She's OK, but here's what happened: after being a bit miserable all day, I put her down for a nap at 5.20pm - not something I'd normally do, but she just couldn't stay awake any longer and it was too early for bedtime. After a few minutes I could hear her on the monitor breathing really heavily and fast, so I went to check on her - she was just lying in her cot awake and staring into space. This got me worried - she never just lies there; the moment she's awake she starts babbling and walking around her cot. Took her downstairs, still breathing really fast and every now and then gasping for air. She was also very lethargic - just sitting there; no talking and no moving about - not like her usual lively self at all. It was scary.
Called 999 and an ambulance arrived within 5 minutes. She had a temperature of 39.8  Had some Calpol and off we went to the hospital. Spent a lot of time waiting around and there was a fair amount of forth and back - they had to wait for her temperature and heart rate to drop, but couldn't give her any more medication straight away, so she had some Nurofen a couple of hours later, at which point her breathing was normalising, but not enough to be sent home. So waited around some more, and eventually they were satisfied that we were within safe levels and she was responding to medication. They discovered an infection in her right ear, which is probably what caused the temperature, which in turn is probably what caused her heart rate to go up - I didn't know this, but apparently that rapid breathing is one of the ways in which babies try to cool down when they have a temperature.
Finally got sent home at 10pm with a course of antibiotics and instructions to keep alternating Calpol and Nurofen to keep her temperature down. It was 38.4 when she woke up this morning, but after some Nurofen it went down to normal, and she's been playing and babbling away and being her usual self - right now she's having a nap.
A 'fun' part of the evening was to get a urine sample from her! They do that as a routine thing when babies have a raised temperature to rule out a urine infection. Anyone tried this? You get given a waterproof sheet to put on your lap + a plastic cup (or a little bottle if your LO is a boy). Then you take their nappy off and sit and wait for a wee, which, if you're lucky you'll manage to catch! My little girl was being good and provided the required wee within two minutes of her nappy coming off
OH's teenage son is staying with us this weekend, and last night we were going to have a family dinner with Indian takeaway, as it was OH's birthday on Saturday and his son's birthday a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, things didn't quite go according to plan - they had their dinner, and I had mine at around midnight whilst posting on here... Made up for it with pancakes this morning though, which also made LO very happy - it's her favourite thing
Going out for a walk when LO wakes up - right now there's a bit of a Duplo competition going on between OH and his son. So far this morning they've made an ostrich, a hippy caravan, a shoe, a windmill and a dinosaur!
Hope everyone has a good day x
Oh sweetie I have been pretty much exactly where you have been and it is the scariest feeling ever. Big hugs. It makes you truly realise how a high temp can be dangerous for a little baby doesn't it. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing though.
The urine sample thing is hilarious isn't it. In the end I asked to put her in the cot and we managed to catch her weeing out the side like a boy would

Hi Ladies
Gosh Nutella, sounds really scary - poor LO, and poor you! Glad all is well now though - fingers crossed you don't have to go through that again!!
When Aiden was in Hospital, we never got asked for a urine sample. I don't know if it was because they knew it was something to do with his chest maybe, so didn't need to rule anything out? But there was a mum there with a 16 month old trying to get one - she had to sit with the little cup and just wait!! She waited for over an hour, she kept giving her water - then when it came, it came....loads of wee!!
Hope everyone is well - amazing day here, so sunny. Took Aiden to the local park which he loved now he can toddle about, problem is he just seems to like standing at the bottom of the slide staring - not good when there are about 8 kids waiting to come down it! Tried him with a bit of ice cream too, he didn't like it at all, so he just nibbled on his melon
Came home and he had a 2 hour nap, and OH has just took him up to bed now as he was getting sleepy again.
Wish I had a bottle of wine katiebest we have is a couple of cans of Carling and some vimto.....
Hope you are feeling a bit better Bamama xx

Thanks so much for all your kind words ladies - I love this thread
LO was a bit miserable this afternoon and her ear infection is obviously bothering her, but we've started her on the antibiotics, so fingers crossed things will improve soon. Gave her Nurofen at 7am and Calpol at 4pm when she had a temperature again. She hasn't had much of an appetite today (the exception being this morning's pancakes, which she wolfed down), so am expecting a request for milk at some point overnight...
Lovely weather here today - went for a walk and did a bit of food shopping. Also got a new picnic blanket (the old one went mouldy in the shed...), so we're all set for summer now!
Will be having an early night - am feeling really tired from last night and going to bed at 1am. Hope everyone has a good night x0 -
Still no laptop battery, hopefully Postman Pat turns up with it tomorrow!
Massive hugs to you and your LO Nutella, fingers crossed she's on the mend now. A had a severe ear and throat infection at Christmas and he was completely miserable, luckily the Anti-b's kicked in so quickly. I kept him dosed on calpol and ibuprofen at regular intervals and he really did perk up xxThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Awww, that's nice

Ahhme too. When you posted you had been to a&e but you would update us later I was ever so worried!!
Going to sound a little bit of a loser now....but...I think of you all as my friends!!!
Her meds will kick in soon, it took Aiden about 24hrs on them before we noticed him perking up. I am sure she will be back on her food in no time, and who cares if she needs a bit of milk tonight - in the grand scheme of things it doesnt matter at all does it
My little one has started sort of humming himself to sleep, 35minutes tonight of "mmmmmmnnnnnn nmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmm" it gets very annoying after a while, he has his eyes shut and everything while he is doing it!

I'm loving how Beautiful the weather has been today, I've had washin on the line all day and then when oh finished work we went on a hours walk!
Now im getting lo off to sleep in our bedroom with the temp saying 24 degrees so have the window open and hoping it cools down before I put him in his Moses basket. What bedding do you ladies use in warm weather? I only have blankets so thinking I'll use a thin one tonight, normally I double it over because it's been quite cold since he was born but tonight it's roasting!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
Thank you all for asking, we had quite a long day. Went food shopping, to MIL's, a drive and then to SIL's before home. We had a bit of a laugh which has eased some tension. Was it sammie who asked? I'm not sure if it's pressure from MIL or not.
Nutella. So glad to hear everything is ok. I had visions of something more "accidenty".
*bug hugs to all*0
