Viruses need cells in order to be grown as they are not independent cells. Some vaccines use animal cells (e.g. polio uses monkey kidney cells) but others use human cells. The cells have been cultured over many years but originally came from aborted babies. From memory there are two main cell lines used (known as "human diploid cell lines") one of which I think is called MRC5 and I forget the other. One of measles and mumps (I think it is measles) has a version which uses a human diploid cell line to grow the virus and one that doesn't. I *think* the other doesn't usually use them but as I say I'm a bit hazy.
With rubella the strain of the virus used came from an aborted baby. It is known as RA27/3 because it came from the third sample from the 27th aborted baby they used. I think this was some time in the sixties when lots of people had abortions just in case because they had had rubella. This strain is used worldwide except for in Japan where they just swabbed the mouth of a child who had rubella. I don't know whether they use human diploid cell lines to produce the rubella vaccine as the source of the strain ruled it (and the combined MMR) out automatically.

I guess we all know my feelings all ready but for every 'vaccines are bad!' site there's 50 good sites that tell you the facts, not the conspiracies. I'm bailing out of this thread now. Wanting to be informed about health so you can keep your babies safe is one thing. Promoting hysterical anti-science, anti-medicine scare-mongering shite about vaccines is another altogether and I want no part of it."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

dizzi, I don't know if you have seen them but Aptamil & Cow & Gate both make anti-reflux milk. We switched Theo onto the Cow & Gate one (I think they are both the same but C&G is cheaper) as I was convinced he had reflux but the GP/HV said as he was gaining weight etc it couldn't be. After umm-ing and ah-ing for ages I decided to try it, just to see, and the difference was amazing. Theo takes his bottles beautifully, no more squirming and fussing, and no more constantly cleaning up piles of sick! As far as I know you can only get the milk in Boots though.0

I have been deliberately careful to only make statements about vaccines that I have seen substantiated by reliable sources that do not have an anti-vaccine bias and whilst it would take me a while to search through all my print outs (I have a lever arch file which is almost full) and I am not sure I have kept records of all the information, I am happy to provide links for any of the information I have given. It is very important to me that I do not give out inaccurate information and I have been very careful not to state an opinion either way on vaccines so as to only be discussing facts and not pushing my opinions on other people so I apologise if I have seemed otherwise. I do not wish to be scaremongery about either vaccines or the illnesses the vaccines are for and I do not believe that there is any conspiracy.
I think the problem (or at least mine when I have read your posts on this) is that its fine if because of this info you don't want to vaccinate your child but why bother putting this info out there if your not pushing it on others? It feels like scaremongering because your putting it here. Surely if I wanted to do research I would do! However I know that I was vaccinated and have been fine and know that I will vaccinate my child because I would hate for them to get measles etc. leave your views off this thread and you won't be accused of scaremongering! If ladies wish to know about the vaccines I'm sure theyll google it!Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -

Hi ladies
Oh boo, hope no-one is leaving. We're all going to have different views on things. I think we just need to accept that and move on, without trying to preach our beliefs and change other people's views. All entitled to our opinions. Please no one leave!
I know I cant log on too often, but do enjoy catching up with you all when I can.

Ahem, I did ask about splitting vaccines and so on though - so ultimately it was me who opening this can of worms.
I for one am happy to receive other peoples opinions on the matter, if someone wants to post on here that vaccines a really a tracking device being inserted and the government are monitoring your every move.,,,.well I won't believe you but you're welcome to your opinion
There are parenting practices discussed on this thread that I would never consider for my child, but I respect the right for others to make choices different to mine, and if there is something I don't like then I just scroll past.0
