Many thanks guys! I will leave my HSBC account open but I won't be using it other than to transfer my wages through it. HSBC seems like a very strict bank to me..
Anyway, surely, the best banks is better than the biggest banks?
I think Llyods, barclays, Nationwide and Halifax are the best tbh...
Lloyds group own halifax and Nationwide is a building society not a Bank.
And all banks are sh*t IMHO.0 -

Agreed.
I've been happier with Nationwide than any bank I've ever been with and I've been with them all.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Correction:
Barclays
HSBC
Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Halifax and Bank of Scotland
RBS Group, which includes Natwest
No i was correct.
my 4 are the correct 4. Which is what was asked for, Not the groups within them. thanks.
If you want further detail then:
In relation to the United Kingdom, the phrase "big four banks" is currently used to refer to the four largest UK-based banking groups, being: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_(banking)#United_Kingdom0 -

I'm sick of Nationwide and their automatic declining system lol. They seriously suck. I've got nothing but bad word about them, I'm one of their customers too, I don't have any other bank accounts but nationwide and from personal experience they are bad. They have been for me ove the past 8 years anyway.
Good points:
They'll give anyone a standard cashcard bank account, Even during bankruptcy.
Good online banking system for transfering money and setting up payments etc
Bad points:
They decline everything you apply for lol even with a perfect CRA report
Their online message system is useless, 9/10 they can't answer important questions, you'll get a automated responce saying they are not allowed to answer that question through the automated message system. so you need to actually call them, which defeats the purpose of the object. Its secure and only someone who has all your customer number, memorable date and pass number can access your messages so its more secure then a phone call or e-mail!
Doesn't allow access online to view your loan(s), Not sure if other banks do but this is a negative for me for sure, I like to know exactly where i am with finances.
A lot of the time customer service just give you the run around.0 -

What i'm getting at is the OP asked for just the 4 main banks, Not groups, which is what i gave. If he/she asked for the groups then i'd have given your answer, Because that's were i actually got my answer from lol :rotfl:0 -

That's just being a prudent lender.
It does appear to be true that they can be more 'picky' about their customers than the high street banks, but I'm not sure that means they 'seriously suck'.What i'm getting at is the OP asked for just the 4 main banks, Not groups, which is what i gave. No - you said that Bank of Scotland were one of the big four. It's actually RBS, which is where izools was correcting you.0 -

Their system is bad, I have perfect CRA score and report, And i've been with NW for 8 years, No missed payments, No CCJ's, I'm not bankrupt. But still everytime i apply with them for something their automatic system declines me, Which drops my CRA score. I then have to appeal the decision and everytime an actual person goes through my records (not a automated computer system) then i am accepted and the person always says they can't see why i was declines as my account is excellent. This to me warrents their system "seriously sucks". haha0 -
You need to ignore credit agency scores they mean nothing .0
