I've switched over my direct debits from HSBC to nationwide because I haven't been using NW much so I will be doing it now. Plus they've been so good to me.

I did the same, originally I only had my mortgage with Nationwide, but I quickly realised that they're much more helpful and offer much better deals than the likes of the traditional big four.

Keep a look out for other flexclusive offers once you've been a main current account customer for over three months; last April they offered a 4.25% ISA (which I missed ) and in August they offered a 6% (4.8% net) regular savings account (which I got :T), they don't offer them for long but they're usually good deals.

I'm 34 and would feel the same after the decade of credit hell ive recently come out of. Every accept is like winning the lottery ;-)
  • Congratulations to the OP on getting the card that you wanted with a good APR.

Apologies for jumping in on this one...

What would you say the big four banks are?

  • Many thanks guys! I will leave my HSBC account open but I won't be using it other than to transfer my wages through it. HSBC seems like a very strict bank to me..

Anyway, surely, the best banks is better than the biggest banks? :)

I think Llyods, barclays, Nationwide and Halifax are the best tbh...

Traditionally, it used to be Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC and Natwest.

But it's become far more blurred now - it's more appropriate to talk about a 'big six', including the above, plus Halifax and Santander.
