Hello. Tis Me
:D:D:D
Well, life has been hectic! 2 weeks away camping with the mites, being sent away with work and moving house! And all this without a single cigarette.
I'm really starting to enjoy being a non-smoker. As someone else said earlier, I feel like a real evangelist. I've persuaded a good friend to actually read Allen Carr's book rather than just buy it and look at it on the shelf.......
My 10 weeks is coming up shortly

I'm doing okay for day 2.
I have decided that it's not me that wants to smoke but my body, I had a good attack of the shakes this morning but didn't last forever (joys of cold turkey!?)
On the positive side I have saved £4.50, I don't stink and having to keep your hands busy is a good way at getting all those jobs done (will clean windows today while the baby is asleep!)
Hope everyone else is having a good day!:DPay off all your debt by Xmas 2012Aim £8200Total so far £3700Left £45000 -

Hello All,
Have been lurking for ages and enjoying the threads, thought I ought to say hi.
I gave up smoking (after 30 years of it) on 25 May this year with a little help from my GP (bless him) and Zyban. As I was on 20 ciggies a day, I have now not spent over £500 on the bl**dy things but I must say that even though it does gradually get easier, I still miss them (I just tell myself it's ok to miss them, just don't start again!)

Hi all, hope you're all doing well.
Adzha, stick with it buddy! It does get easier. Are you taking any form of NRT? I find that gum does help (although i used to hate the habit of chewing gum!).
Mumofcookers, well done for making it past 3 days! You should pat yourself on the back knowing that there is no longer any nicotine in your body!
Keep up the good work everybody!

Welcome, Yog! It's great to have you join us!
Congratulations on staying smoke-free for nearly four months; that's inspiring!
I know what you mean when you say that you still miss the cigs. I feel the same, but i tell myself that that should not be surprising since we'd miss anything that had been such a fixed part of our lives for so long (15yrs in my case). However, at the same time I remind myself of all the positives that has resulted (and will continue to result) from breaking that acquaintance! Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say!'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it....for much longer!'0 -

Allen Carr's book, The Easy Way To Quit Smoking - definitely gets my reccommendation, one of the biggest things that keeps me quit (since jan 2006) is when i learned that nicotine actually alters your brain chemistry, so your brain gets extra reward signallers released on exposure to nicotine.
This, as a result, means your behaviour changed because nicotine becomes the most important thing that your brain tells you you need when in fact! The damn cigarettes are literally even controlling the way you think, and controlling who you arei've known people facing house repossession and they continue to smoke, even buying them OVER paying the mortgage.
They control you guys, you are not the person you think you are when under the influence of them!
edit: oh, and i didnt find it hard at all to quitso don't believe all you hear, im convinced a hell of a lot more people would be able to easily quit if the media, the tobacco companies, and everybody else weren't constantly telling them how hard it is, and how its the hardest thing you'll ever do - i'm sure this is a myth started by the companies, the psychological addiction is the big part, not the chemical one. But what can i say, when someone says its hard to quit, dont neccessarily believe them - give it a go first, have a few diversions planned, half the battle is just occupying yourself with something else when you feel the urge. This is something that sufferers of OCD (obsessive cimpulsive disorder) have to do to overcome their compulsive behaviour, id say its fairly similar to an addiction.
For example, i used to smoke the most in the car, id get bored otherwise, id say id smoke 60% + of my days cigarettes in the car, so i just made sure i kept a pack of chewing gum in there, and should the urge take me, id have one of them instead, this is why people put on alot of weight sometimes, replacing the urge for cigarettes with food, but at least with chewing gum theres not much risk of calorie overload, if you've ever smoked just after having chewing gum you'll know how disgusting it tastes tooso thats another little benefit
Drinking plenty of water / juices helps too0
